  • Less interesting than he seems on paper
Prompted from my thread about harsh racing conditions, what predicaments have you gotten into in general life?  In particular, things that seemed perfectly reasonable at the time until things started to go pearshaped.     :fp

In my own case, I immediately think of my days when I was spending more time rockclimbing than I was spending at school.  I was at least as obsessed and committed a climber as I was later in life as a cyclist.

Probably one of the first obvious ones for this thread is - deciding that the weather was too bad to climb anything 'serious' and so instead deciding to go and solo a very long easy climb.  "Solo" meaning climbing alone and without ropes.  Anyway, about 150m off the group the drizzle turned to outright rain and I had the joy of spending the evening sleeping on a 3ft ledge 150m off the ground on a night that dropped to about 5C.  Fun! :win  Like the topic suggests, it seemed completely reasonable at the start to assume that I would have finished the climb well before the weather came in - but it weren't!

lol Martin!  :)

I too used to be a climber of things...

I did get benighted a few times on climbs...one that a friend and I started-- obviously thinking we would finish before dark..we got to the last pitch and my friend, a pretty Swiss woman, decided she wasn't feeling up to it so I said I would finish to the top...we made it fine just as it got dark---and just as we topped out some guy with a thermos of hot chocolate was sitting there waiting for us! He had been watching us from below for quite a while,  and as it was a 'walk off ' from the top down a scree slope to the side, had decided to bring us a warm drink for our hike down.  ;D  it was really appreciated too  :)

Oh gosh don't get me started....

a long time since I have thought of some of these adventures....

Snazzy.

How good would it be if the bib were worn without a jersey.
