![]() well it passed without much fanfare....bit o' lightning and a few drops... it was a nice morning ![]() ![]() Posted by: L'arriviste« on: May 23, 2013, 13:34 »It is 8:30 at night and I am sitting by our front window watching some massive lightning move over the mountains close by ...yow! it's coming towards us We had a big storm here around 04:00. The Artist Formerly Known As Mrs L'arri hates them and she was up and around as soon as the first crashes came. It was all unexpected and seemed to appear quite suddenly, or maybe it was just because I woke up with it overhead. It is a beautiful thing to watch though, especially if you have a porch or some sort of vantage point. When I was a kid I used to watch them roll through the valley during summer evenings. The sense of anticipation was the most alluring part: all the animals going quiet, the freakish stillness and the sky turning brownish, full of improbable dark tones the likes of which only Netherlandish landscapists have ever managed to reproduce. he passed away last night. Layton Kor he was revered and respected as one of the legendary climbers of the world...famous for big walls and first ascents..his ascent of the Eiger http://www.alpinejournal.org.uk/Contents/Contents_1966_files/AJ%201966%20256-260%20Gillman%20Eiger.pdf I was lucky enough to meet him decades ago when I was out climbing..and we climbed together several times and did routes that he had made famous. He had a twinkle in his eye and a childlike silly sense of humor. He will be missed. Posted by: mew« on: April 23, 2013, 02:56 »I think the soul of a city is in the hidden and out of the way places.
![]() I was awed by things I saw along the canal... Posted by: kabloemski« on: April 21, 2013, 17:40 »Quote there also is some Banksy art on the walls nearby... I love street art. Posted by: Caruut« on: April 21, 2013, 14:39 »Caruut are you serious?? Haha, yeah one of my flatmates just came in from a run along the canal and was horrified that I'd never been. Might go along and see the Banksy, though. The last two days in London have been so amazingly good. First proper weekend of sunshine this year. I was in Hyde Park yesterday for the 420 celebrations and it was so nice. Sun still shining today too, I'm just sat near my window chilled out with music playing. What a day. Posted by: mew« on: April 21, 2013, 02:50 »Haha, I live less than 10 minutes walk from Regent's Canal. I've never been. Caruut are you serious?? google the map of the canal...it is so interesting..and the locks etc along the way ![]() and Florrie one of these days I would love to see the canals in Amsterdam and country..!! it looks beautiful! ![]() oh and Caruut..there is a funky little Canal Museum near Regents... it is interesting and I like little out of the way quirky places... http://www.canalmuseum.org.uk/history/tunnels.htm I visited the Regents Canal near Kings Cross...there also is some Banksy art on the walls nearby... It's all damp valleys, child abuse and sooty stone (as can be seen in mew's picture). Take your bike kit, mew. Lots of great cycling over there among the Satanic Mills, including one of the UK's iconic climbs Holme Moss within spitting distance, though I'm more of a Yorkshire Dales man myself. ![]() Posted by: kabloemski« on: April 20, 2013, 11:45 »Yes kabs You walked right into my trap, Fleurski Start preparing the guest bedroom ![]() |
