Yeah, but Jeev played a belter of an outward nine. Proper gent, he deserves it, and his third play off shot was well better.

Well seems like Jorge may be slowly running away with it, shame Rossi didnt win it would have made a great fairy tail win which would help to truly honour a great legend but this race may have been very title defining though Pedrosa is still in with a chance, though I dont think Stoner has much of a chance.

Some interesting pairing there, even though I fancy the Rory pairing to really shine.

Desperately stupid to keep all the big names together in the first couple of rounds, borne out of NBC's featured pairing nonsense. It's also the lazy journalism that one can expect when covering the sport (and beeb covering it), there are a few outside Woods, Westwood, Donald and major winners.

Of the Challenge tour players, I definitely will be keeping an eye on Rafa Echenique jr, was astonished that he lost his tour card a couple of years ago.

The way the summer, or so called, has gone, it will take some good course management to get around in one piece considering the smashing winds that should affect a links tournament, not to mention the extremely soggy course, and that's not exactly what has been McIlroy's strength. I think he'll struggle here. Not too convinced by his links record, it's well different to a normal course. Needs a lot more thought and is not as algorithmic as other courses.

Asian tour lot, well of course Jeev and Thongchai are legends of the tour, but another great is taking part in the Open, Prayad Marksaeng. Hope all three have a good run. Jeev has said that a major is his career goal now.

Here's another quality trio
41   13:59   Nicolas COLSAERTS   Hunter MAHAN   John SENDEN
The full list

Jack in the box pick? Pablo Larrazabal. Would've said Paul Lawrie, but he's won an Open and is in form

Could go here or in the Olympic thread.  Very good documentary on Bolt - lots of behind the scenes and quite unguarded stuff.

The Open is up and running, Lawrie, Scott, and Tiger the current leaders on -2.  Weather looks ok atm, no rain, and not too much of a breeze either.

Lawrie a flipping ace links player and he's on form. Wouldn't be the worst bet to win. Jeev got an even 70 and Thongchai scored a 69 :win

Kaymer and Robert Rock are out for sure.  Echenique and Westy at 3 over.

Didn't realise Mardan Mamat was playing here.

Wowzers, missed that. Tis Geo restricted, but there's a handycam video on ewetube. Good for him. I still don't know how the fark he qualified for the Open. Not disgracing himself there either.

Nice to see McDowell back in contention nowadays,  2011 was just not his year.

Really feel bad for Adam Scott. No one deserves to go through that.

Happy for Ernie as he has been returning to his old form for the last few years, but this Open will be remembered more for Scott's collapse.

Just got the channel that be broadcasting the final of the Super 15. Considering it's only the NZ commentary I listen to usually, I be cheering for the Chiefs.

Also because of Liam Messam's flipping fantastic performance for New Zealand in their last match and of course, Taumalolo.

Guess I was the only one who watched the USPGA. Rory won, and Scott had another stinker of a fourth round. Petterson had a 2 stroke penalty which cost him around half a mill dollars because his club struck a leaf in the backswing.

Good tournament by Rory, but he's still showing that he's a fair weather player who struggles in anything but the ideal conditions. Tiger had 22 putts in the opening round, bloody brilliant that. He's setting himself up for 2013 pretty well. Ryder cup coming up in a couple of months at Medinah, but the run of tournaments in the European tour are always proper fun with players desperately looking to keep their card.

Wiesberger's had a superlative season this year, 2 wins in the European tour.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, reports ESPN's Jorge Arangure (on Twitter). MLB has confirmed both the suspension and that substance was testosterone. The suspension takes effect immediately and will cost him the rest of the season.

"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," said Cabrera through a statement, courtesy of Hank Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle (on Sulia). "I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down."

Cabrera, 28, was in the middle of a breakout season and is scheduled to hit free agency this coming winter. Both Melky and the team recently agreed to put contract extension talks on hold. Cabrera hit .346/.390/.516 with 11 homers in 501 plate appearances during his first season in San Francisco, earning him his first All-Star Game nomination.

Ryan Braun was suspended for a failed PED test this past offseason but successfully appealed and did not miss any games. Cabrera will not do the same based on his statement. He was set to hit the open market as one of the most coveted free agents available due to his age and production, but the suspension will surely impact his next contract, perhaps in a real big way.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com confirmed that Cabrera will be eligible to play in the postseason once his suspension is over (Twitter link). He would have to miss his team's first four games, however. The Giants are currently tied atop the NL West with the Giants at 64-53

I always despised Melky even when he was a Brave, and seeing him be successful for the freakin' Giants this year made me sick. Happy now though!

Don't mind the Melkman, hurts the Giants but I still think they'll win the (NL) West. I guess testosterone is useful in boasting your OPS which was a career high .906 which is .097 higher than last year. Just looking at his stats it seems he started 'jucing' last year.
Yankees: 569 games .269/.331/.385
Braves: 147 games .255/.317/.354
Royals: 155 games .305/.339/.470
Giants: 113 games .346/.390/.516  :o

The increase in SLG% the last 2 seasons has been, mental!

If it were as easy as that, anyone could be a two time major winner like Daly. It takes hours, and days to even hit the ball a minute 30 yards in the direction you want it. It's well a sport, and it's well worth the effort. Walking around for 6km and whacking the ball 200 yards while putting unnatural stresses on the knee and back, it's not nearly as easy as the pros make it look. That's like saying I can climb like Schleck on fire because I'm skinny.
