Chess, which I'm rubbish at, and slagging off dinzy are sports, btw.

Again walking 6km on a course, and twisting your knee as much as them while swinging the arms, and then comment on the lack of fitness. Yes, they're not anorexic like cyclists, and they don't give up any ounce of good food, but to say they don't have targeted exercise to improve fitness in the lower back and front knee, where all the weight is concentrated, not to mention the shoulders, is rubbish.

Had a similar discussion a few months ago with a person who said cycling was glorified exercise. All easier said than done.

twisting knee and swinging arms? next you will be claiming my dad dancing in a nightclub counts as sport

surely 'Glorified exercise' is all any sport is. in fact that should be the definition of sport

next you will be making up sports where, instead of hitting the stationary ball with a club they get someone to throw the ball at them. maybe involve some more people that can try and catch the ball.

There are other people who read, you know. If I suggest torsion about the stationary ankle is more at the knee than the shin then the history undergrads won't understand ;)

All easier said than done, if golf is dancing in the club, then cycling is avoiding diarrhoea.

Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

It was a great final, stayed up till 3 am to watch it. When Djokovic won those two sets after each other I thought Murray surely would lose and then he breaks him in the first game.

Congratulations you Scots & Englishmen. ;)

Definitely shows that Andy is a different man, I dont know or care whether it was Lendl or his mum but his improved mental state has been pretty fantastic, as a fan, to watch and the way in which he battled in the match last night was truly unbelievable.

Good news for him is that it can only get better seemingly and hopefully this will be his breakthrough into what was an incredibly strong GT stranglehold held by Nadal, Fed and Djoko.

Glad to see some countries can celebrate successes in sports other than football.

In most of europe this would be unthinkable.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/london-victory-parade-brings-tokyo-standstill-084102148.html

Also Australia

http://www.smh.com.au/olympics/off-the-field/live-a-golden-parade-as-sydney-celebrates-olympic-stars-20120820-24h5z.html
To be fair, Australia don't have much to celebrate. Take any scraps. That'll learn them to be Injuns.

Good for the Japanese.

Cant wait for some Japanese riders to start winning major cycling honours. Beppu already had like 5 journos with him when he was at the Giro.

New Zealand a joy to watch even if I am feeling rather sympathetic for the Welsh.
They are outclassing the Welsh in every department, but their offensive play within the 22 is unbelievable..

Will be fun to watch England playing them next week :D

Wales made a comeback sort of, but 33-10 does not do justice to the NZ superiority. Though it does do justice to Wales's rugged determination.

England meanwhile are in a spot of bother over their captaincy after Robshaw has errer thrice in two weeks with his decisions over penalties and a lot of talk saying there are better flankers out there.

On the topic of skiing good to see Chemmy Alcott making her return, tbh always has been a lot of fuss about a skier who has never really placed all that high, but I felt extremely bad for her after her fall and especially considering all her battles with funding.

Good win for the 49ers last night, although the 4th quarter was a little hairy. Here's hoping this season becomes 6 out of 6.

Lithuanian  Zydrunas Savickas aka Big Z  wins his 3rd world strongest man title by being crowned 2012 champion in Universal Studios California  Adding to his victory in Valleta Malta 2009 and his Sun City RSA  2010 title awarded on a technicality (after he finished level), Savickas is now 4th on all time list.

Pre competition favorite and defending champion Brian Shaw suffered nerve issues in his hand and could only finish 4th. As a result Savickas's  compatriot Vitautas Lalas - the smallest man in the competition,  proved his closest competitor  leading until the last event.  At 205cm 3rd place Haefor Bjornson of Iceland, was 27 cm taller than Lalas
