What you are drinking now, what you wish you were drinking now, and what you recommend the rest of us try.

I'll start with the best memory of my trip to Belgium and a fine local lager. Icebreaker might know what I'm talking about.

I love you man.  Funny, it didn't take me long to find this thread. ;D  My avatar is Westy 12 and Rochefort 10.... the wifer and I can't seem to make up our minds which we like better.

Some of my current favorites from the USA;

Dechutes Brewery, anything they make, particularly The Abyss
Firestone Walker, 15th Anniversary
Stone, Vertical Epic Series
The Bruery, everything they make, Batch 300 Tripel if you can find it.
Avery, everything.... I can't quit drinking The Reverend and it may in fact kill me.
Allagash, everything... Allagash Curieux is stunningly spectacular.
Hangar 24, Pugachev's Cobra  WARNING 16.5% ABV ;D  Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad.... OMG.

That's prolly enough fer now.

I had New England Brewing's #668 Neighbor of the Beast the other night, its a really good canned golden Belgian.  At 9% is gets you going too.  Also just tried the new Sierra Nevada Rye IPA, its nice, nothing outrageous.

My local pizza place has Delirium Noel on tap right now, might go have a pie and a few of those tomorrow.

In fact, this is the whole list of whats on tap now, surprising(to me) I havent had many of them at all, any suggestions?

Delirium Noel Belgian Strong Dark Ale - 10%
Heavy Seas Smoke on the Water Smoked Beer - 8%
Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA - 7.2%
Brooklyn Brewing Concoction Spiced Beer - 7.6%
Long Trail’s Hibernator Scottish Ale - 5.6%
Heavy Seas Winter Storm ESB - 7.5%
Stoudt’s Scarlet Lady ESB - 5%
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout - 5%
Dogfish Head Raison D’ Etre Belgian Dark Ale - 8%
Berkshire Brewing Holidale Barleywine - 9.5%
Dogfish Head Black & Red Imperial Stout - 10.5%
Weyerbacher Winter Warmer Ale - 5.6%
Weyerbacher Hops Infusion American IPA - 6.2%
Otter Creek Black IPA - 6%
Long Trail Centenial Red Amber Ale - 7.9%
Oskar Blues TenFIDY Stout - 10.5%

Just found out a couple of my brothers are having dinner at a bar in North Vancouver, so I sent some Rochefort 10 and Maredsous 8 to their table. No need to hit the applause button, that's bound to bring me some good karma.

A beer thread that doesn't mention generic bland brands right off the bat!! Heaven.

Love Stones, Dogfish Head, Victory, Appalachian, Lancaster, Brewdog et al and I myself have a brewing licence so I'm slowly working on joining the fold  ;D

Spent last Saturday at the National Winter Ales Festival in Manchester supping a few beers and top weirdness marks goes to a German smoked beer that smelt like Frankfurters in a glass, odd but strangely nice.

If you like keeping notes there's a wonderful mobile app called untappd that's worth installing.

Do you get the chance to go to the brewery in Watou?  Pretty good tour...

Not yet, Scott. When you live here for a while you the start to share the strange condition that all Belgians have: because the country is small, you adjust your sense of distance. What is 50 miles away seems like a long, long distance. So you find excuses not to bother making these "long journeys". For me Watou is like, well, it's unthinkably far! I will get around to it someday though.  ;D

Found this the other not to bad

bit light in body but does the job

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

My formative beer drinking years were spent in Austria, so I'm particulary partial to the pilsner variety that is brewed primarily in Austria and the Czech Rep.

Beers like Gösser, Puntigamer, Stiegl, Zipfer, and Ottakringer from Vienna. And of course, the original Plzen (Pilsner Urquell) and Budvar, the original Budweiser.

It's not for nothing that the Czech Rep. has the highest per capita beer consumption in the world, with Germany and Austria also in the top five.

I especially like the bock beers they make at Christmas and Easter, 10-13% but without that heaviness that I associate with Belgian doubles and triples or something like Carlsberg Special.

But let's be honest, when you're thirsty just about any beer will do. ;)

Off to my local for a few pints of ale, a choice between st Austell tribute, wye valley hpa, or bathams bitter. A shame we don't get much choice of decent Belgian beer in pubs in Worcester

It's a reasonably good Belgian style dubbel.  North Coast makes some pretty good beer.  Their Russian Imperial Stout is wonderful.

Indeed, IPA is a winner, currently treating myself to a "Double" IPA from Little Creatures (famous for their fruity ales)... very nice but it was a limited release and it's my last one :(

This one's from my December holiday. Anyone who's been there will know it:

Belikin Stout 6.7% ABV

Bought a case from the local brewery tractor first morning we were in Caye Caulker.

Not particularly stouty but still a nice beer for $1 a bottle anyway.
