Cold (-5C) & very windy (35km/h, gusts up to 60km/h) in Miraflores, would be snowing if we had the moisture, damn it.....

Got a bit of dry spindrift snow last night, but the wind cleared it off.

Something around 3 ins, 5-7 cms of snow fell all over western Holland during the morning and early afternoon, leading to the ususal chaos of clogged highways and no trains. Since it's staying below freezing until at least next Thursday, we're in for a long haul of slippery and dangerous roads.

The last time we had anything like this, in Dec. 10, it took them four days to get around to gritting the back streets in my local area.

29^o Celsius here in Melbourne at 11.15 in the evening. I love summer and I love balmy evenings.

Really don't know how some of you northerners survive all that coldness. You have my sympathy. (Although it seems some of you like it. :o )

I guess a lot of it comes down to what you are used to.

It's a beautiful 17 atm. Temperature dropped 10°C since last week so this feels cold to us (although still in shirts + shorts).

The town of Lelystad, about 30 miles up the road from me, last night had -20.9c, (-9F) the coldest temperature in Holland in the last 27 years, and the coldest Feb. temperature ever. The 'mildest' temp last night was -10c. ???

I was out in a mere -5, felt like spring.

I managed a decent sunburn on today's ride. My farmers tan is coming along nicely.

the washing machine just flooded (obviously, a frozen out-pipe) our second floor... dripping next to head downstairs alerted to me the fact...

I know what you mean. The thermometer on my balcony has been stuck between -5 and -7 every day. I don't look at night.

However, all this means that skating is now possible on our canals and that Elfstedenkoorts (race fever) is increasing by the day. Ice reports from Friesland are published every day, some areas already approach the 15cm depth required for 20k skaters, others only had 6-8 cms today. There is growing hope that the race can be held on this weekend, though the Dutch religious party in parliament strenuously objects to a race on Sunday.

The ice masters of the relevant areas of Friesland are meeting tomorrow evening to take a decision. The country will be waiting with bated breath, a bit like waiting for white smoke in the Vatican, for the chairman to come out and utter the words, 'It's on'.

It was 81 degrees this afternoon when I left my house for my ride.

I went to dinner with my wife in shorts and flip-flops. 8)

Last night everything was still white and frosted over, today the temperature on my balcony is +2, the first time it's been above freezing in around two weeks, and everything is dirty gray and slushy! I've got windows open too, looking forward to 5-7c (mid 40's F) in the coming days.

Feels like Spring....
