What sport do you play?
« on: June 12, 2012, 21:46 »
This thread could be for discussing any sport that you partake whether it is on an international level (like DinZ) or just a kickabout with your mates on Sunday.

During summers I cycle, mostly alone but sometimes with one or more others. I run at least once a week, mostly either early morning or evening. Some tennis, but I suck at that. Football with family or friends occasionally, but those matches are never very intense. During winters (or bad summers) I run more often than I cycle and play squash on an almost weekly basis. My favourite sport though is ice skating, especially on natural ice.

The only sport I ever did competitively was ice skating (as in speed skating, not figure skating ;) ). Was quite good at that, but I don't have the right mindset to be an athlete: I'm never motivated enough, I get bored when I play the same sport for too long. I do a lot of different things, but always just for fun.

Football for uni football team and whenever else i can (always last person to leave).
Tennis at local tenis club (mostly indoors)
Cycle when im not doing the others, or to the others.
Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

I did a fair bit of running until recently when I sensed a knee problem starting to develop. Knowing that I would be cycling again soon, I gave it up. I still do yoga most mornings: the standard 12 sun salutations and one or two other poses to help my other niggles.

I started playing football when I was 16 (unless you count 4 weeks of training with a team when I was about 8). Played on a - very low - competitive level until I was 19, then stopped as I didn't have the motivation anymore. Being one of the few that always showed up for training and yet not always playing does that to you. I then got into cycling (both for myself and as a "spectator sport"). On a very recreational level, and not very many km/year, but still riding about one sportive per year, sometimes two.
At 21 years I started playing on a 7-a-side football team again, and it's much more fun now (4 years later) than it was when I stopped the first time around.

Cricket in the summer, hockey during the winter.  I also enjoy skiing, swimming, surfing, the occasional run, and generally keeping fit.

I have represented my school in Table Tennis, football, Long distance running and Cricket.
Yet the only sport I really am much good in is cricket, though I play a lot with friends, yet I dont play for a team as just dont have the time as its played in the week and not on the weekend.
Will be joining a team next year though and I am playing in a big interschools tourney next month, maybe even hoping to join middlesex juniors if all goes all right

In my free time in the winter its too dark/rainy too play much but when I do it will be football. In the summer it is mostly a mixture of cricket and tennis

as mentioned else where i used to race bikes, then played ultimate frisbee for about 6 or 7 years and got to international level. travelled to US, Japan and all over europe to play.

that all ended about 14 years ago and since then very little. Did some running but got tendonitis and ride a bike occasionally but do not race.

am not really able to play team sports any more due to shoulder that pops out easier that a grannys hip.

I used to play baseball competitively as a kid in Little League, and it was fun until it got to the school level. Now I enjoy watching and going to games, and have more fun just throwing around.

I also play golf very poorly, and am a big advocate of ultimate frisbee.

I have started playing badminton as well.. A great game to play and really very fun and gets the adrenilyn flowing once you are good.

Chess I play as well, but I have never enjoyed it too much. Too competitive for me..

Used to play chess against a chess computer machine and inevitably spent most of the time getting my arse kicked/ checkmated.. so I gave up.

I havn't raced for a long while but have recently played pitch and put golf.

Cycling in the summers, xc skiing in the winters, hockey whenever I can, and then usually some exercise program using free weights just out of interest. My wife and I are going to start crossfit next month, is that a sport? Probably not, but it is exercise. Typing this reminds me that I really have to resume running.

Looking at your country flag, I guess that means the ice kind.

I myself play 7-a-side football, and cycle. Just not at the moment, because of a broken collarbone in July... But I did get up a.o. the Stelvio before that. 8)

So far, so good. It's been a lot of fun and it's good to get back at lifting weights with some good old-school exercises. Hoping to add some Olympic lifting in the New Year, just have to learn the technique so I don't injure myself (it sucks not being 20 any more). It is intense, and I spend a minute sucking air after the workouts, but they are over fast. My wife is very good at it, which means I have to work that much harder to save face, but we're both really enjoying Crossfit so far.
