Title: I just made my MTB much more fun to ride ...
Post by: Icebreaker on July 27, 2013, 20:34
I hacked 3 inches off the handlebars.  Much better.

I guess you can never get the '80's out of the boy.  I am still using the original HB's on my deKerf, REALLY narrow little bars!

it's been so long since I rode an mtb, so what's the practical effect of that then? is it more nimble in the handling now? reminded me for some reason of John Tomac and his drop handlebars on the mtb. I never did learn why Tomac preferred that and why, given his maverick status, it never caught on as a trend.

More nimble and it helps when you are riding single track  through forest. Although I'm kind of an old-timer, flat handlebar, hard tail and all.

He still rides those too.  He came through town he a few months ago and I ran into him at the bike shop.  His bike was in a work stand, he was puttering.  That was a well used, well taken care of rig.  Love to try riding one like that.
