The ATB Tour of Alberta has adopted a hybrid of the hub-and-spoke model being implemented by other UCI professional races, like Australia’s Tour Down Under. Alberta’s capital city, Edmonton, is the hub of the 2017 race, with additional communities, including Spruce Grove and Jasper, hosting spoke stages.

Event President and CEO Scott Fisher said: “In our fifth year, we’ve put together a route that highlights many beautiful regions of the province and by combining start and finish locations and adding more circuits, we are able to offer spectators an amazing viewing experience. The race starts with a bang in Jasper and an epic mountain-top finish at Marmot. Spruce Grove then offers a scenic new route through the city and out to the beautiful countryside to the north. Finally, Edmonton as a five-year partner of the Tour, will host the final two stages in the heart of Edmonton and throughout the Edmonton River Valley, culminating in the exciting overall finish at Churchill Square.”

Flat. Could be windy.

Uses some of the course from last year's TT.

Stage 4  »  Edmonton Circuit #2  (124.1km)

Tour Tracker (http://tourofalberta.thetourtracker.com/)

Nothing on the website about the Tour Tracker (or any broadcast news for that matter), but that's the link if they are using it.

Competing teams:

Cannondale-Drapac (USA)

UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team (USA)

Silber Pro Cycling (CAN)
H&R Block Pro Cycling Team (CAN)
Garneau-Quebecor (CAN)
Amore & Vita – Selle SMP p/b Fondriest (ALB)
Team Jelly Belly presented by MAXXIS (USA)
Rally Cycling (USA)
Aevolo Cycling Team (USA)
Holowesko/Citadel Racing presented by Hincapie Sportswear (USA)
Team Medellin-Inder (COL)
Elevate-KHS Pro Cycling (USA)

The race has been on a bit of a downward trend since 2015. Less stages each year and lower quality fields. 2017 brings one less WT team than 2016 and no Axeon either. Cylance who might have enlivened the action too are off riding ToB instead for whatever reason.

You can view the provisional rosters by clicking through from here (http://tourofalberta.ca/rosters/), but I will probably still link tweets when team news is out.

This is the last major race of the American Tour, so we may as well look at the rankings.

Carpenter may have a healthy lead over Tvetcov and Britton, but he will be overtaken by both after this race no matter what happens. Due to the rolling rankings now employed he will lose all the points he accrued here last year (139) and since he isn't riding after his crash in Utah, he has no opportunity to renew them.

Again in the team rankings Hincapie will suffer due to Carpenter's absence. Rally have points to defend too with both Huffman and Joyce (even though Colin wasn't riding for them) scoring well last year. Eisenhart will need to perform out of his skin to have a chance at outscoring the three-pronged Rally GC attack.

One and a half hours live coverage of each stage.

Stage 1 will finish at ~10pm UK time and the other three stages will be later at around midnight. :zzz2

If you are wondering where the race profiles are, they don't seem to be on the website. :S

Luckily Medellin tweeted today's one.

Final start list:

No Amore & Vita after all, which is a bit of a shame as they impressed me in Utah. So a very small field of just 82 riders.

Good job Global News. :cool

L'Equipe to the rescue.

The official twitter account is very poor. They've told us there is a break of 14, but only deigned to tell us who two of the riders are (Fanny Craddock and Brown)

Rally dominant again with four riders in the top-eight.

Maybe if you managed to get the Global News stream working it might have been an easier race to get involved with, but I found it a real struggle. I still don't know all the riders who were in the break, there were no graphics on the feed and race tweetage was very sparse.

Anyway it looks like Huffman's to lose with the only real GC stage done.

Bonuses for Howes and Ellsay bringing the only GC shuffling.

Colour me underwhelmed.

In terms of the American Tour rankings, the winners should be Tevtcov and Rally. Congratulations to them.

Speaking of Rally, a different CN article says they have some more European racing to do this year.

Yeah, it wasn't the grandest of races, was it?

Speaking of Rally, a different CN article says they have some more European racing to do this year.
On their website, they have the Bergen Worlds, "pending invitations". Well, they are invited qualified, so I guess they'll do the TTT.
