Title: Velogames - Spring Classics 2019
Post by: Leadbelly on March 20, 2019, 05:37
https://www.velogames.com/spring-classics/2019/

League Name:   Velorooms
League Code: 58432719

If you have been part of any of the races so far this year then there is no need to enter the code again, you will automatically join the league. The code is only for new entrants, but if in doubt use the code.

If you are interested in winning the season long league please keep your manager name the same throughout the year and ideally have it the same as your VR name or Twitter handle. If you change it, you run the risk of not getting the correct amount of points. Also please limit yourself to one entry or you risk disqualification from that event.

Current top-ten (doesn't include TA yet):

Rank Manager Points
1Lord Di Lego12
2Florecita10
2Luciano10
4Raffaele Filippetti9
4Sammy Suplesse9
6JSG8
6Rossi8
8Miguel7
9Albert Secall6
9Carl Sibley6

Just put in a provisional team and found that due to this no limit transfer rule, I had a totally different mindset.
Tbh, I didn't give it much thought at all, knowing that I could change the lot for E3. No strategy required.
More  :angry than  :(.

Very tough.
A lot of interesting picks in the lower regions and it was hard to choose which are best.

The waters have been muddied and Velogames will run both a limited and unlimited transfer Spring Classics Game.

Keeping track of both competitions at the same time would be more than confusing and dishing out double the amount of points for the same set of races would be rather imbalanced from the point of view of the year long league, so I'm inclined to stick with just one competition.

If he gets the limited transfer version up and running this evening then we'll go with that - the "classic" Classics version. If we have to wait till tomorrow for whatever reason, that won't leave much time for people to get their teams in and therefore in that case the unlimited version will count.

You can play both of course, but the other version (whichever that turns out to be) will just be for fun.

No sign of the limited transfer version at the mo, so we'll have to stick with the unlimited one.

You can still play the limited one and a Velorooms league will probably be automatically created, but it will just be for fun.

Probably for the best, this late in the day. Nice to know that the negative feedback has made a difference, though.

#1 MSR

At least with these unlimited transfers you aren't punished twice for a poor choice of riders. Knowing that, some of us took a bit of a gamble and went down the full-on sprinter selection, which as it turned out wasn't the way to go this year. Others went the other way entirely or hedged their bets slightly with only a sprinter or two and it's those teams which are leading.

E3 is up next.

You are disqualified though, for not having a team in the classic classics game. :P :lol

Struggling to figure out my team for GW - go all in with the fastest sprinters, or the general cobbled classics bunch, or classics type strong sprinters, or a mix :?
The pressure is on after my performance in E3 :o

You and me both, Flo, after my last minute swap out of Stybar, Jungels and Gilbert, for a more spread it around approach.
I did the same with Stybar in the 24 transfer game. :fp

Got to be go for broke after that, but which way? Who knows? the answer may be blowing in the wind......

Actually my E3 was really good, while MSR was crap ;)
But G-W is much harder to predict I guess

I went down the reduced group sprint path myself (and had no DQS riders!), but the top-ten contained some surprises. I think if I had been playing the classic version, I would have been glad to have not used up many transfers for the race.

The interesting team in the top-ten is Tom Baa's down in tenth who showed the foresight to select both Kristoff and Degenkolb, but unfortunately his predictive skills mainly ended there.

#4 DDV

Quite a few of last year's title challengers have been conspicuous by their absence towards the top of the leagues, but some finally show themselves here.

Newcomer SzafBo hit the jackpot with 4-pointer Turgis and that was the main difference between topping the table and being an also-ran.

I could have sworn this was a three-way tie for the lead last night when I checked. He must have updated something or I'm going gaga.

The rank 1 RVV is up next.

You aren't going gaga. I was on 1460, but I think there was a mistake with Matteo Trentin being credited with 15 points.
Not sure where the other 15 points went.

The question is: did anybody not have the 4 point golden lottery ticket, formerly known as Alberto Bettiol? :D

#5 RVV

Riders out of form, illnesses and some obvious cost-effective picks mean we're ending up with fairly similar teams and therefore close scoring. Our joint winners for the day Joao and Axel had the same scoring riders, the only differences appearing in their pointless cheapies.

The question is: did anybody not have the 6 point golden lottery ticket, formerly known as Alberto Bettiol? :D

Former leader Dom didn't have him and he's dropped all the way down 10th (mainly) due to that.

#6 Scheldeprijs

In previous years Scheldeprijs was always a low scoring affair for fairly obvious reasons, but even now with unlimited transfers it still continues to be the lowest point producing race. Well, if we will waste picks by selecting Kittel and Greipel....

I'm not very keen on people joining leagues mid-way through the competition. I had thought that maybe Jean-Pierre had joined the Pais Vasco league and with the same code being used for all leagues, that could be a reason for his sudden appearance in the Classics game, but no sign of him there.

PR up next.

By the looks of that table, I should be even less keen. :D

I was 16th in Scheldeprijs overall yet just 4th in our league. We are Scheldeprijs experts! :cool

#7 PR

Interestingly enough, nobody in the top-ten had the race winner. However Mr Leprosy was ubiquitous.

The johnny-come-lately's lead didn't last long.

The gaps as you move down the leaderboard are opening up. Couple that with the more predictable Ardennes races and it's gonna be difficult to move up too much.

Really not liking the spring races game tbh.

And I don't mean cause my teams suck the thing I like about velogames is team in and done. Transfers change the game

Oh dear, guess who is leading again. :fp  :D
Surprised by the number of top teams that all picked 8th spot Kamp.
Not exactly someone I would call a glaringly obvious pick.
Great minds and all that I suppose, which would explain my table tumble. :lol
Title: Re: Velogames - Spring Classics 2019
Post by: Flo on April 17, 2019, 17:42
I thought I did well with all of the top-6 but that wasn't even enough to crack the top-400 for this race

By the way, MV, Kamp was strong in Coppi e Bartali. But that seems a bit of a strange race to base your team on :S

Also I forgot to do my transfers for the classics squad game :fp

Whoops. Forgot about the update.

Not a good day for MV with his three main rivals Russell, Archie and Jempy right at the top.

#9 AGR

1000 points from one race! Some very similar teams out there, but Axel made the difference with his cheaper selections of Lambrecht and Madouas.

MV's slide continues and it's instead Russell who leapfrogs Jempy. Russell is actually 4th overall for all entrants which is very impressive and has a significant cushion over second in our league, but then again he did enjoy a lead going into last year's final race and we all know how that ended....

 ;)

Yup, my slide. I was going to post those exact words earlier.
Can't see a way back, either, given the rather unorthodox AGR result and the respective rate of scoring!
Inspired, as opposed to my :slow  :flustered :cheesy

I mean, I knew Fuglsang would do well, but in that price range I could only afford two and I was sure Martin and Yates would do better :S :angry

We're always quick to accuse teams and riders of racing conservatively to preserve their 8th or whatever in GC. Who's gonna practice what they preach and go for the win in LBL?

Well a gambler did win on the day. Tom Baa bravely left out Alaphilippe and spread the budget about with Woods, Konrad and Formolo picking up good points.

Congratulations to Russell. In addition to the overall, he also won the PR and BP stages. Archie made a late surge to jump from fifth to second and it was marmot who rounded out the podium.

Current top-ten:

Rank Manager Points

MV's claims of a Velogames curse are ringing a bit hollow......for the moment. ;)

Out of interest who won the limited transfer version of the game? Screenshot of the top-ten?
Title: Re: Velogames - Spring Classics 2019
Post by: Mellow Velo on April 29, 2019, 17:44
It's early days yet. Still plenty of time for the curse to return and I've been riding my luck.
It was particularly strong in Romandie last year and I have to say this year's game is an absolute pig.
No idea who is going for the GC and who is just riding for the kms. Plus even domestiques are costly; some as much as 12 points.  Roglic, at an eye watering 26 points, is just the icing on the Alp.
