Sibiu Cycling Tour 2022
« on: June 20, 2022, 16:31 »

The 2022 Sibiu Cycling Tour will see a bit of a change this year, with a record number of six WT teams at the start, and two new stages (a mid-mountain stage over the Transalpina, and the prologue moved away from the city)

The race will start with a short prologue through the ASTRA National Museum Complex on Saturday, 2 July, followed by a challenging stage over the Transalpina Mountain Road, the mountain-top finish at Bâlea Lac and an uphill time trial to Păltiniș. The sprinters then get a chance to shine on the final afternoon of the race.

2 July    Prologue: Muzeul Astra, Sibiu, 2.3 km

3 July    Stage 1: Brezoi - Sibiu, 206.9 km

http://4 July    Stage 2: Sibiu - Bâlea Lac, 179.4 km

5 July    Stage 3a: Curmătura Stezii - Păltiniş ITT, 12.5 km

5 July    Stage 3b: Sibiu - Sibiu, 98.4 km

As usual there will be live coverage of all stages on livestream.com.

The startlist is still fairly provisional (PCS is more up to date btw), but there should be some good guys around. Maybe also Froome?! Who knows. #israel basically seems to send more staff than all other teams together at least.

No Rebellin unfortunately, but I'll still be there at least.

There will be no massive cream cakes unfortunately...

...but a nice, handmade woolen sheep instead :)

I've got my usual questions that need answering! But of course only if a suitable opportunity presents itself.

#global6 - Gonna be back at the Tour of Britain this year?

Rainer Kepplinger - After your impressive recent form has there been any PCT or even WT interest in you?

#att - What went wrong at the Czech nats? and does the result make you feel that you still have a long way to go to "overtake" Elkov as the no.1 Czech team?

will ask, if I get the chance. From the bigger names on IPT's team, after an update now only Hagen is left, by the way:

    BERWICK Sebastian
    HAGEN Carl Fredrik
    JONES Taj
    NIV Guy
    PICCOLI James
    SAGIV Guy

Very picturesque. Certainly a different vibe from the usual urban prologue.

Were all riders on road bikes?

    Here's another question.

Andrea Piccolo - What type of rider are you?

Top-ten in the prologue yesterday, third in the sprint today and when picking him for my CQ team I (rightly or wrongly) thought he was more of a climber.

I guess we'll see tomorrow what he's like uphill.

completely mixed, the winner was fully TT equipped, those behind on a road bike. Not sure it made too much of a difference.

Quite stressful day yesterday, but will try to write a bit later on maybe. Global 6 will do Tour of Britain again, btw, and it's their highlught of the season. They may even sign a new (former :angel ) rider specifically for it, if it works out

    6th.  :D

If a WT vulture hasn't already signed him for 2023, then they'll certainly be circling him now.

strong performance indeed, but I guess Savio has given him a 4-year deal at least?! ;)

Let's see how his time trialing will be like tomorrow. GC could still be quite open if anyone has a superb day - not that it's likely to come from Androni though, afaik not having any time trial equipment

A bit of a surprise there on the final day. Didn't expect the break to make it against all those WT teams. But of course, old school Italian tactics there in the end ;)

Good edition overall, I think. Bora won again, but had to work for it, and the stage winners were a little more spread out over the teams, and from different levels. Even the Mexicans were surprisingly competitive

Didn't get to talk to ATT, and Kepplinger fell ill and abandoned halfway through the race, so no idea about his future either.  But I guess Adamietz should be on Bora's list?!
