No Vuelta for Pogacar. One last chance for Almeida before he's restricted to dom duties in the Tour next year I think.

Not much climbing support if GC is the main goal.

    apparently Roglic will start

    https://twitter.com/WielerFlits/status/1559087762191548417

    #jumbo

    Full team:

    Roglic
    Gesink
    Affini
    Dennis
    Kuss
    Teunissen
    Harper
    Oomen

Did we ever find out why Dennis ended up in a hospital during the Commonwealth Games? He too has made a quick recovery it seems.

Crunch time for Abarca. They really could do with the non-2022 version of Mas showing up.

In contrast to the Tour, here they say Woods will be riding for the GC. Still a lot of freedom though for the others to go chasing stages, and without looking at the profiles yet, the selection does give me confidence again that they may succeed.

Wow he's looking his age there.

I do wonder though, in the event of Movistar getting relegated, might he be tempted (pleaded with) to stay on for another year?

    …..

His head exploded again, but they have several spare ones they can replace just like when changing wheels. Unfortunately it takes a bit more time.

     :shh

This jumbo squad packs more punch for the Flatlands than their Tour de France squad, but … the captain, is he good for 3 weeks daily hard cycling already?

    #fluo is back!

What the !#$&%!#»$&!  :angry I use #fluo[1] but due to years of hating Arkea (the team, not the sponsors) I will have to stuff it in the back of my cupboard and drag out some drab  darkish blue jersey.

really too bad that Bora had to replace Buchmann (due to some kind of infection) and Meeus (broken collarbone). They could have come close to bringing only GC riders and sprinters otherwise. Or is Bennett the replacement for Meeus?

…. And so it ends> Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: the Ugliest trophy for the most struggle regularly presented in sports!

    https://twitter.com/eurosport_fr/status/1569039211595964417

This is just a reminder that someone should inform the Vuelta organization they need to hire a designer to create a real trophy soon. This trophy is a disgrace.

Some years I have a bit of trouble deciding if the Vuelta or the Giro is the 2nd or 3rd ranked Grand Tour, but when I see the trophy, there cannot be any doubt.

Here's a much better look at the Roglic/Wright crash from Stage 16. Video from someone in the crowd.

At first glance it's easy to suspect that Wright was at fault, as it almost appears that he intentionally bumps Roglic, but as many of the comments make mention of: Roglic clearly kept sweeping towards Wright's line, and so it's difficult to blame anyone but Roglic for creating such a tight space.

    Edit:
I found this from Fred Wright after the stage.
(Just ignore the stupid clickbait title.)
