No WVA/Julian/MVDP this year unfortunately. Maybe a combo of the calendar (busy time of year), they see somewhere else as better prep for the Worlds this year or possibly they just want to vary their calendar a bit and race somewhere new.

So yeah it won't be as stellar as previous editions. Bennett might show up for Bora I guess - a return to the scene of his emergence. THJ for Uno-X? Woods for IPT? I can't see him scoring many points in the Canadian double header.

I didn't realise it was that short, but add in a load of fans and the views and it might just make an exciting finale.

Yes I'd go as far as worrying thin World Tour attendee list; backfilled with some third tier  - really not great for fans, sponsors or wellbeing of the race in the calendar.

I dunno. Any race in the UK seems to have not so solid foundations, but I don't think this is the beginning of the end or something.

Certainly the number of WT teams dropping might be a cause of worry if it continues in further years. However I like a mix of teams from all three levels. There's always a story to be told or some promising youngsters and it's not like there won't be anybody "big" there - just not any of the real top echelon that they've been lucky enough to attract in recent years.

    ------------------------------

Anyway I've added the profiles. It doesn't look too bad with some bumps near the end of most stages giving a chance for a late break or a reduced sprint. A lot will depend I guess on the roads used near the finishes - duel carriage way/main roads tend not to give much chance to any attackers.

Last race ever for Lil' Richie. He says he had planned to be in good shape and give it a go, but life has got in the way.

Anyway 2 x PN, Catalunya, Suisse, Dauphine and Romandie ain't too shabby.

Pidcock couldn't add the MTB Worlds title to his CX one the other day. Maybe not 100%? Sheffield might be an alternative GC threat.

The 2021 version of Aasvold might have been a contender for a top-5, but not the 2022 one.

Pretty successful race from them in 2021 with Scott (of the Jacob variety) winning both the sprints and KoM competitions. More of the same this year?

yeah, that was the plan at least, but no idea if it worked out. He is not listed on the UCI website, so probably not

    Tomorrow's finishing climb.

The forecast, unsurprisingly for Jockland, does feature rain and there's a general weather warning for Aberdeenshire: "Rain, heavy at times, may cause some travel disruption and, in a few places, flooding."

Three Scots competing at the race this year.

Onley who's having an excellent year with DSM Devo (and the main team on occasion), Johnston with ol' Caja and the above Crockett. He had a really good Commonwealth Games nabbing the bronze in the RR. We'll see if he goes for breaks or tries to hang with the peloton for some reduced sprints.

Fifty riders all on the same time tells it's own story about the finishing climb.

Even so, neither Ribble nor St. Piran managed to get a rider in that large group and they must be rueing the choice not to put anybody in the break and fight for the minor jerseys. Expect that to change tomorrow.

Also, while Bassett was ruling the KoM roost for Human Powered Health, his team mate Gibson was unable to win either of the intermediates against the CT competition. He must be disappointed in that.

    What a strong finish!  :S

Jokes aside - except for the Tour of Türkyie, #unox Anders Halland Johannesen has had a really bad year with injuries, crashes, covid and more crashes and injuries. You almost had to be a cycling geek to realize there were 2 Hallands that doesn't play football.  :P
The difference between the two brothers is basically the history of this year - they considered themselves identical in performance as of end of the previous season, and results-wise it was basically their role in races that separated them. This year has been very different, but even identical twins will eventually go separate ways to some degree - at least crashes and injuries will give each of them an individual story as they add more seasons to their careers.

I am very happy to see that Anders is now back up again with his level of performance. In front of Teuns and Pidcock, that is probably a first for him.

I dunno about major. The roads do look fairly narrow which will help and it's very exposed, but what breeze there is will be a light headwind. Also no rain forecast today for the area.

    There have been better stages.

I'd better not be quoting this every day for the rest of the week.

    https://twitter.com/TourofBritain/status/1566793777557168135

I don't think that headwind helped in the finale, but without trees it's always difficult to judge the strength of it. Not much action anyway until Gabburo was allowed to get 30s and then a few attacks over the top of the final hill from Politt and Teuns.

To encourage a bit more action I feel they could have placed the intermediates (and their bonuses) in more enticing positions near the end. There is one instance of that on stage 4, but this parcour could do with something like on all stages to enliven the action.

Disappointment of the day? Mr. Bassett. Hero to not quite zero in 24hrs. His gamble of not going in the break paid off when they were caught just before the first KoM, but he blew up trying to win it and that enabled Jake Scott to win the remaining two with minimal effort or competition, and it's now the Brit who wears the jersey.

Some clever stuff from the break for most of the stage until Richardson started peeing around. He nearly ruined it for them all.

Is there a 3 second rule in these races? There must be if they're saying (currently) that Strong is still the leader. It's awfully close anyway to that specific gap from the flagging Paasschens back to Meeus.

    Maybe it will be updated.

even if there is, then it's only applied on from the 1st rider of the peloton in a scenario like this. So the jersey must go to Perry.
