Sick of having nice weather all week and then the only two crap days are Sat and Sun. Today was foul, so I skipped it in favour of indoor activities. I'll go out tomorrow no matter what, but this winter should be over already. Every year the European winter seems to go on longer than the last one.

I hope Echoes realizes that with constantly whining about people's obsession with "Bore the France" he actually draws more attention to that race

Bore De France sounds like the tunnel under the English channel but without the fires and rubbish food.

Is it too obvious to slag the Eurosport weekend cycling coverage?  flipping inundated with Winter sports all of a sudden and no live Tirreno.

We can vent about ANYTHING? Well...

I don't like Sky and I don't like the fact that Dombrowski signed with them.

I also don't like the fact that Arsenal are no good at SOCCAH anymore.

Did you have the requisite tyre levers or was it a case of the old bent spoons?

Well done anyway! It's a pain in the botticelli when you flat whilst on a ride, especially if it's cold and rainy. Hasn't happened to me in years though, touch wood. I imagine it's a whole lot less painful in an Australian summer. Good on you though, AG, you've undergone a bit of a rite of passage there!  :D

The bike turned upside down and resting on bars and saddle is the best for changing the wheel,  heavy duty spoons as levers and fairy liquid for lubrication.

And no quick releases on the skewers because that's cheating.

Nut and bolt fastening skewers are the best for sure, I wouldn't ride a racing tricycle with those newfangled quick release devices.

I have long had the policy that I have to have a ride outside on New Year's Day.  There are some years where that ride is MUCH shorter than other years.

Some years I have gone around the block and said " I rode outside"

You can get it done, just adjust your parameters.

And where on earth is it -20 in March??

The thing is echoes that in many English speaking countries we simply have not had the coverage of anything other than the tour.

Why should TV be the only way to get interest in something. Before TV existed, people were already interested in cycling, through newspapers, radio, Cinema news or visiting races and they were equally as passionate, if not more. A friend of mine still listen to live coverage on the radio, in the 21st century. I find it very nice.

TV is a mass-media and hence favours rich race organizations that get richer and richer. In the 50's small races could gather crowds of 50,000 people. I have pictures in books. It's very impressive. Hence what I said, we are all - tv viewers - accomplices (including myself). Visiting races is the way to go.

But now, we have the Internet with live streams for many races and articles, profiles, start lists, etc. for almost any races. There's no excuse for Tour obsession.

Not only that but in the last 2 years, the winner of the tour has been Evans and wiggins - something which will no doubt impact on its popularity on English speaking web sites.

Evans is a former World Champion and the last two Milan-Sanremo wins are Aussie !

    Quote from: Slow Rider
If a change in the Tour of Flanders parcours was announced in the middle of July, it would be discussed as well. In July. Ridiculous?

Really? Well if you do that, you're my hero !  :D

    Quote from: Slow Rider
To be honest, I think you're just a bit over-sensitive about the Tour.

I admit it. But sometimes, there's overdose. Too much is too much. There are much better things to do in winter than ... waiting for the Tour of France. Really, I can't understand that.

    Quote from: Slow Rider
Not everyone is enough of a cycling fan to want to watch all races. Not everyone lives in Belgium, where cycling coverage is the best in the world. And not everyone has the time to watch everything.

I'm from the French-speaking part. Most races covered by RTBF when I was a kid also were by France TV or French Eurosport. Not everyone has the time to watch everything? That's true. I usually don't have time to watch cycling in July. However on Sundays of April, I'm always free.

    Quote from: Capt_Cavman
Yes we all follow and often prefer other races, Classics and stage races, but that doesn't mean you have to be totally blinkered about how overwhelmingly important the Tour is.

Judging by their historical prestige, I can consider the classics overwhelmingly important ...
