True that. But to my mind, the media are doing a great job of spreading fear around those of us who are now supposed to feel lucky still to be employed. Annoys the hell out of me.

We got an email yesterday morning from Barroso telling us how they'd all agreed on a great plan to create jobs when everyone knows they spent the entire meeting finding ways to shed themselves of Greece. Why do these people even bother to pretend they're in control anymore? Nobody believes a word of it. That guy couldn't even get a job at Costa Cruises.

Guy I know who works in Big Tobacco (and still sleeps at night), he's been there his whole working life and recently they had everyone "re-apply for their jobs". You know, submit a CV and a covering letter detailing why you are necessary. Demeaning doesn't even begin to describe it...  >:(

Oh god do not start me on the media selling fear. that pretty much sums up most of what is wrong in the world.

Unfortunately the stories about the big banks does not appear to be just the media, have heard from people that work there that there are restructures going ahead. At one insurer the senior management were forced to reapply for jobs, including steps they would rake to successfully reduce the rest of the headcount.

while i do not work for the banks directly jobs lost there will mean reduced project opportunities which is likely to reduce my chances of finding another job.

Yeah, this latter thing is where my head is at right now. Finding another job and just how much goes along with that. We only have one life - notwithstanding reincarnation - and I feel like the Man is telling me "whoa there, slooooooow down".

It's like: Better not look above the parapet. Might get shot at.
It's like: Better not look at the greener grass. Bridge might fall through.
It's like: Better not take any risks. Might not work out and there's no way back.

People around me, they're cancelling stuff. Putting things off. Life choices. Selling houses. Buying houses. Stocking up on tinned beef and beans and papering their cellars with tin foil. OK, so not the last one, but you get the point.

I'm resisting this. I'm trying to stay open. But I feel like I'm increasingly in the minority.

Damned if I'm putting my life on hold because of the profligacy of a few people.

i have had intentions of putting my life on hold. Moving house for a start. turns out i am not that disciplined.

with the job, you kind of do not want to be the new guy anywhere, in case things go south. Also do not want to quit only to find there could have been a large redundancy payment a month down the road

It's funny people said the same thing about the 2010 ones in Vancouver but in the end kids loved them. I suspect even though they look ridiculous that the same will happen here. All the 6 year olds will love 'me.

Ran out of heating oil this morning, cannot get a re-fill until tomorrow AM, so looks like a cold night ahead, living at 1100 metres in the Madrid Sierra.....

My employer has announced reductions of 25% of the total Co (17,000 out of 74,000) late last year, but then they keep the same clowns in the Executive Management team as they have had for the past 5 years.... seems that I will not be one of the lucky ones getting a DCM (Don't Come Monday). All I want is out with a decent cheque, then I can get back to enjoying life and get my own business up & running properly.

Im a patient man, but if one day, be it tomorrow or in half a century, i could see the rest of world sport be taken down by doping it would be a life well lived for me.

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

The only jobs out there are jobs I don't want, but I will need to take because all the jobs I want have instituted a policy that you need at least 5 years of experience in legal positions, or a Phd  >:( SO this means I'll need to do a sh*t job for 5 years before I can even start to do something I actually want to do, or at least something in the area in which I want to work  >:(

always wonder about people that get a statement. read it. get cash. get the receipt

why do you have no idea how much money you have?
why do you not use internet banking?

cash machine it says, not internet banking machine.

hate it when people do that and you are in a real hurry as in middle of doing something and realised you do not have cash

When did it become acceptable for people to talk with their mouths full.

I admit i have an unreasonable issue with this (i have never understood why but i also unreasonably hate the sound of someone eating nosily) but really to hate it. For some reason that nasal voice people get when they talk while eating grates on my brain.

every day the women in my office get together over lunch and chat. full on for an hour. it is a very small office so they are basically sat loudly chatting at a table 10 feet from 3 or 4 other people that are still working. Normally it is bad enough but right at the moment one lady cannot wait to finish chewing to get here next exciting observation about her child out and is talking through every mouthful. I am slowly dying inside.

like i said above. i have issues.

NO you do not have issues!  :D :D  I thought maybe I was the only one that went crazy in movies/ tv when the actors work so hard at 'acting' casual and eat with their mouths open and smack!!!!
    Makes me NUTS  :P

That is why I rarely go to new movies these days...there are no good actors anymore just 'celebrities'.  ;)  Can you imagine Bogie or Cary Grant eating with their mouths open?? 8)
