Britain names its team for Round 1

    Link here

Perhaps depleted by their Olympic exploits, Team GB will send just 3 riders to Colombia for the first round of the UCI Track World Cup in October. Jess Varnish - who was unlucky to miss out on a medal in London when she and Victoria Pendleton were disqualified from the team sprint - will fly the flag in Cali, accompanied by academy riders Becky James (a 2011 national champion) and Kian Emadi.

True... and 3 riders hardly qualifies as a "team", anyway. Still, I love me some track cycling!  :win

He was great at the Olympics. There was a small section of Hyde Park cheering his every move... and we were all gutted when he didn't make the sprint final.

Cali is the first WC after the Olympics, but Glasgow should see a full team.
First 2 days of Glasgow will be on the red button, Sunday live on BBC 2.

Sure, GB is in the process of re-building, but they will continue to put up a strong showing
at major competitions. Of course they won't be as prolific as the past two games.
The Olympics are only the cherry on the cake.
The Worlds will be the testing ground, where there is greater strength in depth of competition.
New reputations need to be forged.

Quite right, but GB tend to be very underwhelming at these races, apart from the WC round in the UK where we send a strong squad.

Also at the Worlds GB seem to underperform, seemingly building up to the point where GB only demonstrate their true strength at the Olympics and imo it is a bit sad that you only get to see the best in track cycling every 4 years..

The programme kicks off at midday, Colombian time, with qualifying for both the men's and women's pursuit.
     That's 7pm CET, or 6pm UK BST.
First UK interest will be around 9-30pm BST, with the women's team sprint.
For full programme and approximate event timings as posted above in the OP:

All results will be posted, as they happen, here:
    LIVE

The Cali track has very tight banking, producing a lot of speed on the exit, so I've been told.

Only 41 women entered for the meet. :(
GB look to be massive favourites for the Team Sprint.

So much so, that for qualifying, Becky goes out of the gate and Jess is on leg 2.

Btw, could you remove the spoilers in the starlist post. Cheers mate.

Is that the startlist for the whole tourney? If so then I guess Alexander will go for the individual sprint too. He was pretty decent in the Pan American Games.

Spoilers removed - I was just conscious of not having an extremely long post!

And yes - as I understand it, those are the lists for the whole event. Individual discipline start lists will come out closer to the time.

MV's LINK will give the lot.

I guess there are a lot of cyclists who have worked towards the Olympics, and are now winding down, same as they did on the road.

Starts with Men's team sprint finals at 55 minutes in.
Welsh girls at about 1hr 7 mins
Becky and Jess at 1hr 26 mins.
(Means they get to wear the World cup leaders jersey in Glasgow.)

Just seen the Pan American games winning kilo time, and it's a second slower than fifteenth, same man, here.

Day 1 results updated - a strong showing from the home nation, and a couple of great results for the various British cyclists. James and Varnish we sort of expected to win, but for Kian Emadi-Coffin to get second in the kilo, and Eli Barker and her Welsh comrades to get second in the pursuit shows great promise.

I'll catch up with the highlights later - thanks for the link, MV!

How about this for tight qualifying.
    Women's sprint 200 timed lap:
    1)Becky James 11.135"
    2)W Lee          11.136"
    3)Jess Varnish 11.144"

Possibly a bad crash in the 1st heat of the men's keirin.
    Kian Emadi + other 1 DNF/
Long, long delay, waiting for heat 2.

Yes, there was a pretty horrific crash.
KE-C got a re-run in the repêchage, but DNS.
Both GB girls through to tonight's semis/final.
The link above has actually been running (still going) a live feed for most of the morning session.
Presumably, it will do again, late tonight and tomorrow. :D

     Both GB girls podium, but both beaten by the experienced Lee of Hong Kong;
Becky by just millimetres in the match 3, final decider.
