Del The Funky Homosapien/Deltron 3030

There has always been confusion re whether it is The/Tha and Funkee/Funky.. but Del's verified twitter is @DelHIERO DelTheFunkyHomosapien - and I guess he would know.

The first track I ever heard by Del was this classic, old skool 'Mistadobalina'

Del is famous hip hop artist Ice Cube's (if not familiar with hip hop, you might recognise him from the 'Friday' film franchise..) cousin - I'll be posting tracks to show you how Del progressed from Old Skool to totally New Age Far Out Skool :-) Watch this space.

Oh, and BTW - if 'Mistadobalina' sounds kinda familiar, Del sampled the song 'Zilch' by The Monkees, an American group responsible for international hits like 'I'm A Believer' & 'Daydream Believer' - although I guess it's only old(er) farts like me who would be familiar?

From Del's 'No Need For Alarm' album - still very much Old Skool - 'Miles To Go' - the simple repetitive beat is hypnotic, and the scratching is off the hook - I absolutely LOVE this

In 2001 Del made a guest appearance on the first Gorillaz album - 'Clint Eastwood' and 'Rock The House'

"Deltron 3030 is an alternative hip hop supergroup composed of producer Dan the Automator, rapper Del the Funky Homosapien (portraying the role of the character Deltron Zero for the project) and DJ Kid Koala. Their work features many other artists as well, all taking on various futuristic pseudonyms.

The group's debut album Deltron 3030, released on May 23, 2000, is a concept album set in the year 3030 that tells of the fight by Deltron Zero (Del's alter ego) against huge corporations that rule the universe." (Wiki)

They released this album in 2000 - a hip hop space opera of sorts - Ziggy Stardust for the new millenium - Del takes a trip - I love this

Damon Albarn returned the favour on 'Time Keeps On Slipping' - one of my faves on the album
