Advice... winter tyres?
« on: November 07, 2012, 14:33 »
I've not had a winter proper for nearly twenty years (gotta love living in Aus!) and was wondering what people recommend as a decent winter tyre? I've got some Schwalbe ZX things on at the moment but tbh they're pretty slippy in the wet and muddy roads. Any advice guys and gals? Ta, esa.

I kitted out Mrs L'arri with a pair of Continental GP 4 Seasons after getting rid of the horrible no-name slicks that came with her Mavic wheels.

These are neither the fastest nor the lightest tyres out there but they stick like glue on the corners. I have tested them myself and they are really impressive in the wet, even on greasy cobbles.

I myself am still on knobbly 4ZA 'cross tyres, even on the road. And they are as slow as you can imagine.  ;D

Right! I've gone hardcore... got a couple of second-hand 25c Maxxis tyres off a mate at the LBS, and I've stuffed an old pair of CX tubs into them! Ha, take that 'winter'!  ;D

Jezuz... L'Arriv, think I'll be hunting down a pair of those Conti Seasons mate! Tyres within tyres may have been ok when I was screaming fit, but at present: Nah! Epic fail...  :fp Heavy and dead as...

    And I only did 50km!  :-[
