On site advertising
« on: November 14, 2012, 14:08 »
You may have noticed on the right side of the page under the forum menu there is a new link to an affiliates page. These are basically cycle companies that we are affiliates of so if people by from them using our link we get a commision.

I want to try in 2013 to reduce the amount of advertising on the site to a bare minimum.

Ideally. The adverts on the right hand side of the page will go, and be replaced by a single affiliate ad at the foot of each page, and the right hand side of the forum can be used for a menu, along with latest posts etc rather than advertising.

Then a single affiliate ad to the very bottom.

Guests however would continue to get google advertising. Ad revenue combined with donations in the first year was enough to fund the forum, and i am now experimenting with guest v user advertising to see if guest only ads can support the forum, allowing all users to get a pretty much ad free experience.

It does mean there may be some fiddling over the next month to see which methods work. ]
