The Intros Round
« on: November 14, 2012, 15:52 »
In tribute to the BBC stalwart music "quiz", Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a celebration of those tracks with brilliant/unusual introductions.

I'm not talking about once round the chorus chord sequence, I mean something that grabs you and sucks you in, slaps you with it's sound or simply leaves you breathless.

Links to follow later, when I'm not at work, but here's two to start you off:

Eric Clapton: Bad Love

U2: Where The Streets Have No Name

Also, basically any Pink Floyd track, but I'll leave that for now ;)

    ooh this sounds fun.

Three off the top of my head

Cowgirl in the Sand, Neil Young & CH

So What, Miles Davis (Bill Evans piano solo)

Layla, Derek & Dominoes (cliche, I know, but epic)

Dinosaur Jr. - Little Fury Things

That fuzzy, opening guitar riff is mindblowing. Simple as that.

Speaking of mean opening riffs, this will qualify too:

    Bauhaus - Dark Entries

And here's a less evil, but not less fantastic intro:

    The Cure - Plainsong

When the keyboards break loose about 25 seconds in...wow. Majestic is the word, I guess. I love this one to death.

More intros to come I'm sure.

The first thing that sprung to my mind was Pink Floyd, but CJ mentioned it already :P.

Those first simple guitar notes in Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival are actually so simple, yet so special. by the Dire Straits I think deserves a mention too.

Brothers in Arms is a great shout, Havs.

And starfire, having mentioned keyboards breaking loose, let's not forget Baba O'Riley by the Who (more recently known as the theme to CSI:NY)

This blew my mind when I first heard it -  Pistols Holidays in the Sun.      Great intro, great track and a very entertaining unofficial vid for this one.
