Also is not that British woman the best in the world or something..
Or am I confusing that with another sport.. :D

About all I know about the sport is that you dont need to be the best to win, just the last one standing.. :P

Also the Dutch are apparently actually rather good in this sport ::)

British speed skater Elise Christie says it was "a shock" to discover she was the new world number one, after winning a silver medal in the first World Cup of the new season in Calgary last month.

It was the Scot's second podium finish in three races and means she has a 600-point lead over nearest challenger Valerie Maltais of Canada with three World Cup rounds remaining.

Christie also says she wants her sport "to get bigger" in Britain, and hopes a strong showing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi will help change attitudes to speed skating.

Yey, speed skating thread! :win Thanks Fleur!

The World Cup races should be good, but it's the events later in the year that are far more exciting, when all the good riders reach peak form. Still, it's always good to see Kramer kick everyone's ass on the 5km, even if it's 'just' at a World Cup :)

Also is not that British woman the best in the world or something..

You're confusing long and short track Froome ;) Shorttrack is on a 111 meter course and there you can indeed win by just being the last man standing. Longtrack on the other hand, is what it's all about. 400 meter track, distances 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m (women only), 5000m and 10000m (men only) events.

Leenstra did well to beat Nesbitt, hopefully she'll be able to keep this form. Kramer nailed it again, brilliant time. Blokhuijsen was great too, but not good enough clearly.

That mass-start is certainly interesting, but I think they should leave out the intermediate sprints, they're just confusing...

I wish we had had a long track nearby when I was a kid. No idea where the nearest track is, probably in Calgary or Vancouver and I grew up about 500km from either city. A great sport that we only get to see once every four years.

Another brilliant speed skating weekend for us Dutch. 1, 2 and 3 in the women's classification, 1 and 2 at the men's. Kramer and Wust were both amazing, reminded me of 2007-8 how they were dominating. If they perform like this next year, we'll see a lot of medals coming our way at the Olympics :)

Ok, say yes it's short track but I still laugh watching this:

And although it's nowt to do with racing, is the Elfstedentocht going ahead this year (or likely to?)  I read an article a few weeks ago that it was a possibility...

There's talk of a new Elfstedentocht each year. Sure there's a chance this year, but whether it will actually happen.. I hope so, but not likely.

Great tournament by the young Bart Swings, a very nice third place. But Kramer was, as usual, untouchable.

Wüst even more impressive, even though Sablikova wasn't there. Winning 3 distances and finishing 2nd on the other, she dominated.
