Tablet Theme / Development
« on: December 28, 2012, 17:42 »
Tablet Theme:

i am now working on a theme aimed at tablets. Its very much a work in progress but the aims are

Larger fonts for tablets
Fixed width, much narrower forum
Reduce the size of the user info on threads to maximise post space
and a few other general touches

I do need your feedback and suggestions though, as I dont own a tablet and am relying on testing via mobile browser and a tablet emulator. So any requests, suggestions and advice for a tablet theme is very much appreciated.

the theme is avialable from the drop down menu "tablet" and is very much a developing work in progress and doesnt reflect the final version.

good good.. still lots to do on it..

erm.. do you want lightbox for images on tablet theme, or just enlarge image on the page when you click it?

the main thing is font size, i know on tablets hitting navigation or text is trickier so it it big enough?

Would jump to top, jump to bottom buttons be useful?

And i will rebuild the navigation tree that you get in normal themes and place it at the foot of each page

any other ideas welcome.. i want the tablet theme done and dusted for the new year.

yes is it the 8gb or 16gb.
if 16gb it's msrp. it's what I have except I paid $249. They now have 32gb for$249 and 16gb for $199 and no longer offer the 8gb. The 16gb is ok for me but I would have gotten the 32gb had it been offered

Font size good...easy to zoom on iPad

Jump to top might be handy ..long threads a pain without but not a huge deal

if you reload in tablet mode, and go down a page, in theory a blue arrow should appear at the bottom right corner. working on krebs android. not tested on ipad

at the moment you select it from the theme dropdown, hoewever, this does not make it your default theme, it just makes it your theme for that session.

    there are two options, either
    a) i can make the tablet mode automatic for anyone logging in via mobile or tablet (but thats a way off, its still in development), or b) you change the theme in your profile> look and layout> theme, but that changes it for pc as well.

but the quick way is just use the theme changer at the top right hand corner of the screen.

ok, two more bits added to the theme.

There is now a full text menu at the foot of every page with links to the forum sections as well as some of the more frequently used options

And you should now have a back to top arrow in the bottom right hand corner for going to the top of the page.

If you have any feedback, further suggestions let me know.

Mew has noted the shoutbox and latest posts box are a bit small still so i will increase the font size on those tomorrow. And do some general tidying up. I also need to go through all the images to make sure they are fully optimised for speed.

i do intend removing the share button, once i work out how the hell to remove it for just a single theme.

edit: ok its still there, but the button has been removed for tablet theme.. no how to remove the whole thing :D

reminder to dim: need to ad admin/mod icons, float bb code and some others.
