  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

    New stage race

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/womens-stage-race-added-to-merco-cycling-classic

    Quote
The women's four-day race takes place in Merced, California from February 28-March 3, the same dates as the men's race. It had originally been anticipated that women's racing at the 2013 Merco Cycling Classic would be restricted to omniums on stages 2, 3 and 4, but thanks to additional sponsorship, event director Doug Fluetsch was able to proceed with the organisation of a concurrent four-day women's stage race.

The Orica-AIS women’s team was presented to the World at the Australian Institute of Sport yesterday. The ten-rider line up, which sits third in the International Cycling Union (UCI) rankings, based - mostly - on the results of 2012, has undergone a number of changes from last year. After a highly successful debut season, however, the team - which is sister to men’s WorldTour outfit Orica-GreenEdge - hopes for even better in 2013.

Cracking team line-up and a good all-round spread of riders. Longo Borghini will mature fast this year on the tougher parcours.

I does not look any better a 2nd time.  Do the shorts feature faux suspenders and stocking tops ?  Is there an entirely impractical handbag and parasol to accessoirise the kit ?

    Garner interview part 1

Funny seeing the photos of Garner in her first race. Reminds me of the massive disparity you used to see between kids when I was racing, which probably still exists. This disparity was most evident in bikes and equipment and physical development.

I never realised that the sort of training I did was never going to suit the criteriums that were the only races kids were allowed to do until we were about 17.

I used to do long rides in the Dales with older guys, with loads of hills and bad weather. It was endurance stuff. It was a miracle I had any sort of sprint at all.

Garner says she had a coach from the age of 11, which is pretty cool, I guess. Right place, right time situation. I suppose if the clubs for which I road had ever given a sh*t about their youngsters, we might have done better.

The 26th edition of the stages will Emakumeen Iurreta Bira, Aretxabaleta, Orduña and Gatika the next 6, 7, 8 and 9 June, with a more marked than expected.

It was much more laborious close sponsorship deals and it is still being level private sponsors, but the club Iurretako Emakumeen Bira Ziklismo Elkartea Kirol expected to cover a more restrictive budget but not subtract brightness to holding the race in 2013.

The first stage will start and finish point Iurreta. Will have to travel 95 kms. will flow through Durangaldea to go then to Larrabetzu, Astoreka, Gamiz, Derio and Zamudio, Iurreta again the N-634. The only difficulty is the highest mountain Arritugane (3rd) in the Laukariz.

Aretxebaleta host the start and finish of a demanding second stage of 109 kms., To be as hot spots promotions Kanpazar (2nd) and Leitz Gatzaga (1) the latter port just 15 kms from the finish.
The Bira offer the opportunity to react to some runners behind the day before with the individual time trial Orduña to be held on Saturday 8th of 14 kms.

A complicated fourth stage will put an end to this issue with departure and arrival in Gatika Fruiz. The tour does not offer great difficulties mountainous but runs for a few places where there are very few kilometers plains with a profile marked by waypoints as Laukiz, Menaka, the height of Meaka (3rd), high Errigoiti (2nd), Arrieta (2nd) and a final demanding Garai / Gatika, up from Igartua and completing 88 kms. very hard, to take the podium, without doubt, one of the first riders in the UCI ranking.
