Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Ina Yoko Teutenberg to miss Classics season

Sad for I-Y, I can't remember her ever having been out injured before now. That's also a huge blow to Speccy Lulu for the Classics, even if they still have strong riders in Van Dijk and Worrack.

Can't see this table changing much before the season's over, though that is not of itself any sort of disappointment.

E Stevens is missing but she spent last weeks in the dentist getting teeth replaced and some other stuff fixed after a chute in training but I agree should be about the same end on the year

Hold on - what about "Britain's favourite rider" (I think that was how Garbutt coined her) - Lizzie.  According to all the noveau aficionados of cycling, she was the only rider on the planet who had ever been able to challenge Vos.   I should imagine that right now she wished she had stayed at home and ridden the GW again and not played with everyone who is serious at the World Cup.  Binda was a disappointing result for her.

That was serious bad news for Evie Stevens.  Hope she has a speedy recovery.

I am glad I don't let Garbutt decide what is my favourite drink.

So I was thinking, who on earth is this Vera Koedooder with the crazy name and no apparent history?

As usual, like an ignorant fool, I failed to remember that I don't know every single rider who ever rode in a peloton.

She's a 29 year old and quite decorated with wins as it goes but, and this is the key, most of her successes were on the track. She was World Junior Pursuit Champion in 2000 and European Points Race Champion two years later.

Though Vera has ridden at senior level since 2002, it does seem as if 2013 is her first 'proper' season on the road. She had a lukewarm Olympics last season as part of the NL pursuit team that finished sixth behind the killer Brits and you have to wonder whether like Marianneke she said, "So, that's it for four years. Sod it, I'll try something different next season."

After I initially WTF'd her for winning Dottignies, I now think she has opened a pretty interesting door here and I hope she steps through it.

She's tall and lean and has a big engine as you'd expect from that frame and she looks very capable of winning from late escapes in a time when too many women's races on flatter ground have tended towards bunch sprints.

    Chapeau, Vera!

Vera has been competing on the road for a long time.  I have often looked at her and thought the same - she has everything to be able to perform.  She could do a great deal better than she has.  I think a lot of pressure was put on her in 2001 and 2002 to become the new Van Morsel.  And then Van Morsel returned with those unbelievable  :rolleye performances.

Thanks.  I think there are some shocking tales not too far below the surface. The whole set up across the sport seems designed to produce, at it most benign, Svengali characters with worse in their wake.  I could never understand those idiots giving Nicole Cooke a hard time for swapping teams.  A quick look at most of the women's rostas and the pattern of change is way more fluid than that for the men.  It did not require the brain of a rocket scientist to work out "rich middle aged bloke sponsors team of young girls - hmmm good plan ?  Is he doing it because he lurves the sport ?"  A few girls are now starting to find their voices.

Well, it worked out OK for JP Van Poppel and Mirjam Melchers. :D And, if you excuse the disgraceful choice of name in one case, look at what their partnership has produced!

Like Bernaudeau said when interviewed about Natnael Berhane, cycling is inbred.
