Other sports
« on: February 01, 2012, 13:23 »
It might be a good idea to have a catchall non-football/cricket general topic until such time as there are enough people with interest in other specific sports to start separate topics for them.

At the moment, for example, we're in the run-up to the Super Bowl, then there's ice hockey and basketball until the baseball season starts - and these are just US sports.

So, whatever else floats your boat, have at it here.

    Golf anyone?
Qatar master start tomorrow. Lee Westwood, Quiros, Thomas Bjorn, Jason Day and Hunter Mahan are playing. Not sure about the others but I'd be surprised if Ernie and Robert Rock missed it.

Anyone here apart from myself and maybe Scott and 13 have any interest in Sunday night's Super Bowl?

Live on the BBC and on ESPN America for Euro viewers. I would prefer the Giants to win, but suspect that the Pats will prevail in the end.

Yep , I am on the Giants , Always believed in the ethos that defense wins championships and hopefully the Pats defense lives up to it's reputation as being pathetic tomorrow.

Not massively, will watch internet coverage from work on monday no doubt but do not really care who wins. My token support for NFL goes to New Orleans (based on my simple support the saints in any sport rule)

Love both series -but especially super bikes. Really miss being able to watch them since moving to Canada - apparently we can only get to watch them by paying
exorbitant US satellite fees (even the official websites are geo blocked!) ...  :(

If anyone out there knows how I can get to watch them online, I'd be grateful for what you could tell me ... And my better half would be over the moon, as she is even more of a bike racing addict than I am!  :)
Great, there are a few around. Speedway grand prix is another thing I follow. Aye, it's only four laps around an oval, but they're four fantastic laps. Melandri and Sayfutdinov are my favourites, though I never mind a Jason Crump victory.

John Daly's (yes, the legend with wonky trousers) having all the luck in the world in the Qatar masters, an early first round dodging the blustery winds and missing the second which was suspended due to high winds. Leading ahead Gonzalo Fernandez Castano.

Don't watch NFL but always watch superbowl.

Like the spectacle, love the fact that some countries have their own sports, not just everyone for soccer, love the half time shows (apart from last year total ****ing disgrace and this year don't look too great) the whole hoopla behind it, the introductions, the techmology, the acknowledgment of the armed services, the closed arenas, the money that goes into it etc etc. Basically everything American about sport that we don't get here in europe.

Its something different.  Don't really know anything about the teams so will just hope its close and exciting.

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Yup, anything could have happened on that last hail mary. Pats wilted under pressure at the end, having 'given away' the TD. ;D

Skiing yes, egg-chasing, no. I'm into alpine skiing and ski-jumping, don't really pay much attention to biathlon and x-country.

Likewise, don't know too much about biathlon or x-country, but do enjoy following, watching (and doing) all forms of ski racing - be it downhill, super g, gs, or slalom.  Unfortunately, as I don't have sky, the opportunity to watch it is fairly limited  :(

Would not say i am a fan but watch biathlon etc on eurosport just because i am fascinated by how hardcore it looks
it hurts my legs watching it.

also a rugby fan, Union i assume. waiting for the super 15 to kick off. in fact just waiting for the 'footy' season in general to kick off here (AFL, Union and league)

Suns did the same thing (even won match) last year. Not holding much stock on NAB performances.

OK did not see much of NAB cup last year, just saw Suns at start of full season where they were woeful. GWS looked a better team than i remember the suns looking then, but you are right will not mean anything when the season proper starts
