No idea who won, but I'm sure you know what you're talking about. Regarding golf.. (Insert funny emoticon here..) :-D

Playoff season has arrived :woohoo  http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/20907959  Don't know enough about American Football to make a prediction but having seen him play once this year on the BBC, I sort of fell in love with RG3 and the Redskins  :)

Lithuanian  Zydrunas Savickas aka Big Z  wins his 3rd world strongest man title by being crowned 2012 champion in Universal Studios California  Adding to his victory in Valleta Malta 2009 and his Sun City RSA  2010 title awarded on a technicality (after he finished level), Savickas is now 4th on all time list.

Pre competition favorite and defending champion Brian Shaw suffered nerve issues in his hand and could only finish 4th. As a result Savickas's  compatriot Vitautas Lalas - the smallest man in the competition,  proved his closest competitor  leading until the last event.  At 205cm 3rd place Haefor Bjornson of Iceland, was 27 cm taller than Lalas

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Some day maybe the name will ring out for cycling too.

Sure it's only 6 shows, but I don't get to watch ski racing any other time of the year, so I'm going to milk it   ;D  Hopefully Amy Williams will be great - hte little I have seen of her on tv so far she seems pretty natural in front of the camera, so bodes well, and Ed and Graham are great.  World's in Schladming should be fantastic as well, can't wait!

Jeepers...  Kaepernick had an absolute stormer for the 49ers, took the Packers apart.  Such a threat when given space and time to run the ball.

Brady and Belicheck's record is unbelievable!  Credit where credit's due, they always deliver when it matters.  We get proper highlights here in the UK tonight, so looking forward to catching up on those - an unbelievable series of matches!

So Ravens vs Pats for the AFC, 49ers vs Falcons for the NFC... who's your money on?

BYOP, can you explain to me, as an enthusiastic but fairly ignorant NFL fan, the diferences between the two conferences/divisions.  Is it just so there wouldn't be far too many teams in one big league?  Is there any real difference in standard?  Does one have a better reputation than the other?

49ers all the way! Gotta keep that 100% superbowl record alive.
Can't believe how it's panned out this year. Two really good AFC teams in Denver and NE and who do the 49ers get in the final? The Ravens.

I never liked the 49ers, mainly due to their ability to avoid the big names in the SuperBowl, they got the Bengals twice! I know I'm being incredibly unfair, the 49ers were exceptional in the eighties, and you can only beat what's in front of you, it just always seemed to me that they got an easy ride. They were in a really crap division too, almost guaranteeing themselves play off games every year.

    bah.

I'll defer to BYOP for the answer except to say that when I followed the sport from afar, in the previous millenium, the NFC East Division was widely recognised to be the toughest and whichever of the Cowboys, Giants or Redskins made it through relatively unscarred would be a serious contender.

Chapeau to Esther Vergeer - retiring after being unbeaten for a decade, 470 matches in total.  I was lucky enough to see her win gold at the Paralympics in the summer, and she was phenomenal (not that I know too much about wheelchair tennis) but some of the shots she played were as jaw-dropping as those you see from the top able-bodied players.  Hope she enjoys her retirement.

Incidentally, I remember the Dutch ladies did a clean sweep of the podium in the women's wheelchair tennis - pretty cool achievement!

In the absence of ram this place needs some golf discussion as the Masters come to an end.

A lot of talk about Woods and Rory whilst some guys like Jason Day have been going around very nicely. I would fancy Kuchar, Cabrera or Scott to challenge along with Day and of course Woods not out of it yet albeit a bit behind.

Unfortunately the European challenge kind of died today with Rory going out with quite a disastrous round. Rose so far with a +2 and Westwood and Garcia haven't been able to make much headway. Westwood currently best placed at -2.

Not to be outdone by cricket, here's the IPTL!

    Quote
    @FirstpostSports: Djokovic calls Bhupathi’s IPTL a revolutionary idea http://t.co/FvqvLB9nnO

    Quote
Djokovic calls Bhupathi's...tournament a "revolutionary idea", Nadal says "it will be a big success for sure", while Williams described it as "like a dream come true"...The only notable absentees, for now, are Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer, but don't be fooled into thinking the Swiss is not behind the idea - he is.

Whether or not the league, that will take place in six as yet unspecified cities across Asia and will feature players drafted into teams to compete in one-set shootout tennis, soars into orbit or falls flat remains to be seen.

Bhupathi, however, is adamant about one thing - it will be a serious competition and not a glorified exhibition.
