Le Mans is the only motorsport I watch.
It compares to F1 as Paris-Roubaix does to a parking lot criterium. :D

not exactly F1 related, but there was an excellent interview with Allan McNish in today's show of The Racer's Edge, about his career and the 24 Hours of Le Mans

    Thanks Search.

I guess you're talking about the Le Mans Series (which I know next to nothing about)?
Not the real thing. It's like saying GP Herning is Paris-Roubaix. It's a great race in itself, but it's not the real thing.

    Anyway, that's splitting hairs.
Le Mans (the real thing) will be just what I need tomorrow to either celebrate how awesome everything went, or to forget how absolutely horrible it was. :D

I'm not around for the weekend unfortunately, always love to watch a couple of hours during nighttime when half the paddock is chilling at eurosport, analyzing the race

unfortunately it looks like Toyota is not fast enough, they just lack power. They have an advantage on fuel efficiency but most likely it will not be enough to fight for the win. But anyway, who knows, it's still a 24 hours race, won by consistency, and also the weather could play its part

    No recent comments on F1?

    What about:

Who will actually get Webber's seat?  Is it a done deal or is there something on in the back room?

Will Michelin really step in for next year (Decision has to happen before October)

    Where will Raikkonen end up?

Was Grosjean's penalty in Hungary for the Massa overtake fair?

What is going on with Ross Brawn at Mercedes?

nope, the penalty for Grosjean was a joke I think. same for the penalty for Maldonado this weekend btw, these guys get penalized because of their past, not because of what happened during the race

and Jordan said Ricciardo would get Webber's seat, usually he knows what he is talking about

    Not sure about Maldonado ...

I heard the "hopped to right " comment but can't help thinking he was instinctively diving for the pit entry....

...following a reprimand for Webber because he "went onto the track without the permission of marshals" - it's his third this year, and therefor he will get a 10 place grid penalty for the next race in Korea :fp

Its a shame because it was a brilliant image.  A reminder of Senna and Mansell half a lifetime ago.m  Pretty funny how Alonso couldn't possibly see to his left though due to the leg...

Felt sorry for Webber given how he was doing before his engine started to let go.  Pushing up through the field and starting to distance the two Mercedes and then he gets the radio calls and becomes a rolling chicane.  To top it off he gets toasted instead of making it to the finish line.  I only saw a moment of the engine fire before coverage cut to Seb crossing the line.  Looked like it was going to be nasty though.

Yeesh  I have since seen the footage of Fernando stopping on the racing line to pick up Mark.  From Lewis' viewpoint that was a bit scary.  I know he was only doing around 100kph but still he had to go over the outside ripple strip to avoid the back of the unexpected Ferrari.

That said - I still think it is a sucky response to give Mark a 10 place penalty next weekend.  It was a great image for F1 to see Mark riding the outside of the car to get home.

oh and Hulkenberg was pretty much robbed having to give up his position (note that I didn't say "give the position back").  he was ahead and driving at the limit and got baulked out of the outside of the corner and had to give up the position.  Not great.

Went to see Rush last night - the film about the Hunt vs Lauda rivalry.  Highly recommended - both the missus and I really enjoyed it.  Not knowing a huge amount about the rivalry beforehand, I thought it was excellent.  Found myself really rooting for Lauda - efficient and rationally brilliant, where as my better half (helped no doubt by Chris Hemsworth getting his kit off on more than one occasion) preferred Hunt.  Anywho, go see it :)

thanks, I was surprised to see all the good critics, I was a bit sceptical as there basically weren't any good motorsport movies since Grand Prix and Le Mans like ~40 or 50 years ago, but I guess I have to give this one a try then

it's difficult to maintain the 1st position at the start in Korea because of the long straight into a headwind afterwards - and there is some rain forecasted. So there is still some hope for an interesting race

edit: that forecast was from yesterday though, looks like rain is unlikely now

How weird and sad is this? Sean Edwards was killed in a racing accident yesterday. Apparently having a strong Porsche Supercup this season. He also played his father, Guy, in some scenes of the film Rush (nice film). Guy pulled Lauda out of his car.

    RIP

Not racing,  he was teaching a 20yr old racer from the passenger seat.  Quite a tragic way for a race driver to lose his life.  Can only imagine how the surviving driver will feel when he recovers....

Cheers...  I can think of one similar instance involving a promising sportsman, Collie Smith's death with Sobers on the wheel. He lived with that and recollects playing for him after that. Took him a long time though.

It was an accident, hope it's not an albatross around the driver's neck.

So the Indian GP will continue in 2015 and six years hence IF the govt recognises F1 as a sport and docks the entertainment tax. This is one race I won't really give a crap if it were cancelled. All reports in the papers have it as a riders' favourite, but from a personal POV, it's led to some rather one track and crap racing (from the 2012 and 13 Indian GPs, forgetting what happened in '11). Red Bull really took the mickey last year on the long corner mid circuit being a second faster than everyone.
