Stage 12

Sprinter stages have not seen rich picking for competitors in the game: the same is true today.

18, inevitably, for Nibali's pink;
Mezgec, Lancaster, Belletti and Ventoso were all unique picks, yielding 25, 10, 7 and 1 points respectively;

14 people reap a 5 point reward for Ferrari, and 6 get 3 points each for Modolo. 7 of us had a pointless day.

Martyfulu, courtesy of Nibali and his unique pick of Mezgec, takes the daily honours. He is followed by 8 teams wit the Nibali-Ferrari combination, and 3 Nibali/Modolo teams.

Points in the bag thus far: 5th and 6th places swapping is the only change in the top 6.

Major changes on the day, allowing for GC and Mountain/Points present positions:
Niemiec, Mezgec +25 each
Santambroglio +22
Nibali, Intxausti, Pozzovivo, Majka (all + 15)
Lancaster +10
...
Breschel and Viviani -15 each
Evans -30
Wiggins -161

But those of us who have Wiggins had already dropped out of contention in the game, and probably expect to lose another 104 points tomorrow.
Very little change at the top, but that leading margin is rapidly shrinking: it was 132 points a few days ago, now it is 1/12 of that.

Nobody had Visconti (he was ineligible for the game), but most point scorers were popular choices:
Betancur 40 pts for 5 teams
Niemiec 25 Pts for 3 teams
Nibali 5+18 pts for 27 teams
Majka 15 pts for 10 teams
Duarte 10 points for 7 teams
Evans 3 pts for 2 teams
Santambrogio (just realised I have been mistakenly giving him an L in his surname for the last two weeks) 2 pts for 8 teams.

    Top 10 of the day
1   Afrank    78 (Betancur, Nibali and Majka)
    2   NairoQ    63 (Betancur, Nibali)
    2   LightBing    63
4   Manafana    52 (Niemiec, Majka, Duarte and Santa)
    5   Martyfulu    48 (Niemiec & Nibali)
    6   Taiwan    42 (Betancur & Santa)
    6   Karaev    42
    8   Mellow Velo    38 (Majka & Nibali)
    8   Kazistuta    38
    8   Tuarts    38
    8   Vladimir    38

Afrank has had 2 daily wins, and one shared daily win, and retakes the lead on assured points.

I'm in 4th, if Evans can win a stage (today's I guess) and takes the red Jersey I'll be close going by those virtual standings assuming he hangs on to 2nd.

and I went Santa while you went Nibs was a silly move it seems but me

still can not believe only we have Evans out of so many teams

so Mellow Velo 1st and Tuarts 2nd

and looks like MV should win even though he gave up on the game

Huzzah! Bit silly picking Pantano over Battaglin but pleased I put a good team together. Don't think I'll win, don't think I can, but pleased nonetheless

I gave up. Too many enforced exclusions combined with late selection changes.
Other games, little time, too rushed.
    Hence the asterisk.
    Not alone either, I see.
Don't think I'll be bothering for the TDF.

Sorry to hear that, especially as you won.

All three of these games last year were based on the prices as in the CQ update the Monday before the race started, so I don't see what I could have done about the timing.
I have no control over the health of riders listed to race and subsequently withdrawn, so I'm not sure what you wanted me to do about that either: I posted changes each evening as I became aware of them.
And equally, I applied (after polling for opinions on the matter) the same principles as last year's games for treatment of those who spent part of the previous year under a suspension, and listed those effected in the opening post of the thread.  Please let me know what more I could have done.

But there you go.  I spent God knows how many hours preparing the game and adjusting the rider list and the OP before the race, and at least an hour every evening during it making updates.  If this is the level of appreciation, I guess you won't be the only one not bothering for the TDF.

(Sorry that my first post here is a moan)

For what it's worth Armchair, I, and probably many others, greatly appreciate all the work you put into the game. I for one thought the rules and all that stuff was very clear and concise. I thought you did a great job on the entire game.

Well done Mellow Velo: despite an illegal pick, you still come away with a comfortable win.

Manafana in 23rd is the only rider without Nibali to beat any rider with Nibali.

It wasn't that hard to avoid the dopers and you highlighted them on the google doc anyway. Game took 10 minutes to look over and then maybe another 10 to choose. I was fairly happy with my initial team so I don't think I made many changes. I know I almost selected Battaglin :doh

Anyway pleased with a VR 1-2, congrats to MV and thanks for running it AC.

Might be an idea for me to look, next time. :embarrassed
I had Trofimov in my team and took him out for that "illegal",
Just because I wanted to use up the full points allowance.

Very surprised to have ended up on the podium top step.
Thanks for the very efficient updates, AC.

Trofimov wasn't your illegal pick: Pozzato was.  He was suspended for 3 months last year, so his 12 month running total was affected.  However, he didn't do much apart from one stage to Vicenza, and he only scored 17 points more than his substitute, Duracek.  Trofimov was allowed, was cheaper than Pozzato or Duracek, and outscored them several times over: your winning margin could have been even bigger.

    Congratulations.

Read the second sentence again, he took Trofimov out of his team for Pozzato, to get closer to the 3500 limit

Exactly. Perhaps I could have phrased it a little more clearly, but that's what I did.
Stupid really. Aiming to get as close to the 3500 max, instead of going for potential scorers.
Stuck in the higher cost rider, without thinking.

     Indeed.
My own fault for not initially reading who was on the list, having to hurriedly re-jig a third of the team, then completely forgetting Pozzato's run in with CONI.
Panic situation. Too many games, too little time.
I'm sure that the TDF being what it is, teams will be fixed earlier, so more time for selection, etc.

As I said above and on CN. Thanks for all the work, AC.

Well that was a pretty poor showing on my part - I did however beat the other team who picked both Wiggins and Hesjedal - and Lancaster and Rosa were pretty decent picks.  Thanks as ever for the updates Armchair (although I perhaps followed a little less closely after Brad and Ryder departed the scene).  I hope to be back on form for the TDF, and I'm sure MV and others will be keen to play too.  I think the difficulties referred to were more in terms of making the right picks and not the format of the game - which I think is an excellent adaptation of an excellent original from Hugo.  The dual leaderboard format, with the current and virtual standings (entirely AC's doing from CQManager's grand tour games as I recall), make it really exciting to follow.

I hope you will check in on your youth team while your around these parts Armchair.
