Finally, a thread for all things Movistar
« on: June 14, 2013, 18:58 »
No one else cared enough to start this thread, so I took it upon me. ;)

Let's start with a piece on Giro ITT winner Alex Dowsett:
http://www.veloveritas.co.uk/2013/06/13/alex-dowsett-interview-june13/

He's been a favourite of mine since the Livestrong days. Got to talk to him a bit after the 2011 Tour of Denmark, nice guy.
I was afraid the move from Sky to Movistar wouldn't work out, but he's better than ever. Now I hope that he finally gets a chance at the ITT Worlds, he's long deserved it.

EDIT: He had a go last year already, was 8th in Valkenburg. :fp
Well, I hope he gets another go then. And one more after that, and so on, until he wins it.

He's come into his own since joining the Movis, it's true. He did a good job at Valkenburg last year, on a tricky course. I like him a lot.

I'll be back for raving about Rui Costa later on ;) *pt   :i am not durnk:

I'll just stick this piece on Nairo in here:

Hows Argiro Ospina doing. A certain friend of ours said his impact would surpass that of Quintana.

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Nairito proving just how much of a cycling phenomenon he really is. 2nd on GC, KOM, White, stage win...and all at only 23 years of age...incredible! Probably a good thing Valverde lost time as it opened up the door for Quintana more. And there's no way Quintana's going to have to slave for Valverde much more. He's proved that he is the future. Super happy to see him win today. :D

At the start of the Tour, Tuart bought up a point where he thought Movistar did the wrong thing by Quintana going home to Columbia and not racing since Tireno Adriatico.

    What do we think now?

Good idea or bad?    (and remember, this thread is not in the darkside  ;)  )

    No clue.

I just don't know how good the boy can be.

One shame about it though was that he probably would have entered as co-leader with Valverde if he had raced and probably come close to winning/won Dauphine or Suisse. So that did maybe cost him a bit, but all in all I still don't know how good he can be, that he can seriously challenge Froome in the future is a given though.

And maybe.. just maybe he will revive my CQ team's fortune. :fp

I also hope to see him have a stellar finish to the season, I don't expect or want him to do the Vuelta but it would be great if he could be competitive at the Worlds.

It turned out to be a very good idea, didn't it? :)

Maybe spending too much time in Europe before the Tour, under the spotlight could have negative affect on Nairo after all he had done already. And I'm glad that Movistar came to Tour with Valverde as the leader. This surely provided Nairo a very nice first week to adapt the Tour.

The boy is magnificant. I truely hope that Movistar can manage him the right way. Protecting him from the unnecessary pressure and develop him even further.

In fact, the article confirms their expected race programmes:

Nairito: Vuelta Murcia, Clasica Almeria, Roma Maxima, Tirenno-Adriatico, Catalunya, Vuelta a Asturias and Giro.

Andrey Amador commitment Flanders: "The first step is disbelief" in *es

    Quote
Amador confirm your calendar, Mallorca, Haut Var, Strade Bianche, Rome Maxima, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-San Remo, GP Nobili, Ghent-Wevelgem, E3 Harelbeke and Tour of Flanders. And what evidence is especially pointed in his mind. "The latter are races that I want to be 100%. I hope to be very good and is what I have between the eyes. I do not have a clear objective but I do want to go for the classic and the first will be the Tirreno. In this team we all have our chance. The Paris-Roubaix is in doubt and will run after the Giro d'Italia, "sums

If Sky did something similar it would take some of the pressure off.
