    Two things I thought here.

First is that one should never buy clothing related to cycling in Flanders if one hasn't cycled in Flanders. :D Just kidding, and I guess it is free advertising for the region. :lol

Second, more importantly, is that Rotherham's finest appear to have waded unwittingly into the minefield of Belgian political symbolism.

Echoes will doubtless tell me I'm talking crap here but certain Flemish friends explained this to me when I first came here.

In the official, state-approved flags of Flanders, you will always see that the Flemish lion, De Leeuw van Vlaanderen, has red claws and tongue:

This historically signifies Flanders within the Kingdom of the Belgians.

The Flemish nationalist cause subtly colours the claws and tongue black, to denote exclusiveness from the Kingdom and therefore independence.

Well...its a long story as to why I haven't yet ridden in Flanders.

It involves my 40th Birthday, a new born child and changing plans.

So this is compensation for no trip :)

Well, Jimble, if I'm around and you come over, give me a shout. And well done on the new p'tit, assuming that this is a recent occurrence about which you've been bursting to tell someone for some time.  :D

Jersey has arrived and its awesome... well worth the money regardless of the colour of the lions tongue ;)

Good elasticated bottom and sleeve cuffs. Like a climbers aero jersey but half price.

For those of your without a Flandrian heart (in a fenlanders body!!) you can get the same cut and material in a different style.

Ooh, that's not bad. I'm over that way in a couple of weeks time and so I need to make out a shopping list. Drinks bottles, shorts, lights, base layer, and any other bargains I can spot.

Classy, that. Like the sleeve and collar ridge detail. Tight fit not so good if like me you're probably carrying a bit too much extra baggage though. ;)

Why anyone would choose that over a Flanders-inspired jersey (tongue notwithstanding) is beyond me, but hey, it's a free country. ;)

Browsing through pictures from The Fast One (*za season opener), I found this:

Obviously not from Planet-X, but from *za company Anatomic (I wonder if they have anything to do with the now-infamous "Anatomic Jock Cycle Classique" :s). However, the theme is the same - and the lion has a red tongue. ;)

Searched for it online, and here it is:
    Classics Cycling Jersey
475 Rand, that's ~32 €. Shipping to Europe could be more expensive than the jersey itself. :lol

There's also an SA flag cycling jersey for 439 Rand: :cool

Didn't I have to comment on something similar before? This boldly imitates the national Belgian team jersey while maintaining the Flanders branding. Politically very incorrect.
