RIP Stanislaw Szozda
« on: September 23, 2013, 23:38 »
I have the unpleasant task of saying that Mr. Stanislaw Szozda, one of the best riders from the Eastern Bloc in the 70's, died today after a long illness, two days before his 63 birthday. RIP  :(

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

I have to admit I know very little about Stanislaw Szozda or East Bloc cycling (or even cycling history in general), but it's always sad to hear such news. Certainly still a relatively young age.

    RIP.

I read that the Polish WC team will wear mourning bands throughout this year's championship.

Szozda was a world champion TTTer - like his countryman Michal Kwiatkowski, but over a much longer distance!

He also won the Peace Race, to tie in with your interest there GM  ;)

  • He shook his head sadly and told me that endemic drug use had compelled him to give up a promising career. "Even one small local race, prize was a salami, and I see doping!" - Tim Moore: Gironimo (Riding the Very Terrible 1914 Tour of Italy)
