#nippo Alan Marangoni retired on Sunday, after 10 years in the pro peloton - and he did so in the best possible way: with his first win as a pro :D

“It was the perfect day I have always looked for in my career and I found it today”. With these words full of emotions Alan Marangoni comments the victory just reached in Japan during the last race of his immense career. “I took the risk of attacking in the last kilometers because I wanted to play all the cards to reach this goal, chased several times during my career. Cutting the final line first and winning on a day that was already special for me, was an emotion of an indescribable power. It was a month of sacrifice far from home, but I wanted to close in the best way my career. A fairytale ending that I have dreamed of many times and that today has become a reality.

I wanted to thank my teammates and all the staff who supported me in this final season and that allowed me to reach this goal. Now it’s time to come back, because a new adventure awaits me in a world, that of cycling, which I feel like never before. “

Hubert has just under a year to get that elusive pro win.

I still believe he could get into the top ten. Or maybe not. If Hubert is selected for the next Giro it will be his 23rd GT equal to the most GTs of any french cyclist.

This year at the Giro pre-press conferences it wasn't too crowded during the Ag2R one (well, it was the final one of a 6 hour shift - so there were basically more riders than journalists :P), so Vuillermoz and Dupont somehow got into a on-podium conversation with each other about the races they did together, particularly the 2014 Giro, when Vuillermoz came 11th and Ag2R won the team classification.

And in that moment Vuillermoz noticed that he never said "thanks" for the job Dupont did back then to help him trying to finish in the Top 10, and how important it was have him at his side, with all the experience and race knowledge.

I don't know why it took him five years, but I think is says a lot about the atmosphere and also the way Dupont is appreciated as a team mate.

To be honest, his couple of "almost" results don't justify a 15+ year WT deal - but there's more to it than just that. And it would be amazing to see him finishing it off with a victory.
