One of my favourite songs (got the meaning from a radio show). The lament about the death of Samora Machel, former Mozambique president.

Big fan of music from southern africa.....

I've been a big Mapfumo fan for more than 25 years, I just love the trance-like hypnotic quality of his stuff and have even seen him live a few times. Never mind the 'lyrics', enjoy the groove! 8)

Apart from the likes of Dylan, Levellers, New Model Army, general folk stuff, Im also partial to a bit of alternative american stuff, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mountain Goats.

But mostly the Decemberists. Saw them recently at the Glasgow Barrowlands. Stonking band

Struggling to stick videos on here from my iPad, but if anyone likes a bit of suede crossed with the pixies, it's worth checking out the debut album by tribes.

And as a soundtrack to cycling holidays in the Pyrenees, downloading star tiger star ariel by the delays is a brilliant album. As a soundtrack to mountain days

Was not sure about suede and the pixies but have to admit can hear a slight influence of both on We Were Children.

I must admit I'm a fan of them, but they are a hot pot of all sorts of 90s bands, not original but suits me

Just realised that the TripleJ hottest 100 is on

For those not in Oz, TripleJ is an indie music station here in Australia, which runs its countdown of the top 100 songs of the year on Australia day each year. generally some fantastic alternative music to be found. Am starting to work my way through the chart so far and will no doubt be posting some songs here but thought i would include a link to the whole list for anyone interested to work through.

oh and the first song, number 100
