Unfornicatingbelievable. It is supposed to be a sport fer chissakes.  :( >:(

While Egyptian football fans are known for their violence there are a lot of rumours that there was more to this than just football

A lack of normal policing due to a lower presence after the uprising but also historic issues between this particular set of fans and the security forces.

but you are right it is unbelievable, makes me sad to be a football fan and now no longer interested in checking the scores from overnight

    Utterly shocking and unbelievable.

According to Dutch tv, nearly 1000 are injured. They also say that the local Port Said fans stormed the field at the final whistle and started attacking the visiting Al-Ahly players and fans with stones, bottles, and fireworks. I suspect that most of the deaths will have been caused by people being crushed in the rush trying to escape the violence.

I'm sure that the entire world of football will be watching the investigation into this tragedy, and its conclusions with eagle eyes. Just awful.  :(

Is there any political issues behind that game or two clubs?

Supposedly the Al-Ahly ultra fans were heavily involved in the uprising so had been rumours the security forces were interested in something happening to them.

It really would not surprise me in the slightest.  Watching the footage and the police standing by doing nothing suggests there is more to this than just hooliganism getting completely out of control.  >:(

Didn't it erupt in Egypt's last qaulifier for the 2010 World Cup (or was it 2006) aswell when they were beaten (Cant remember by who) , Dont think it was this bad but I am pretty sure there were numerous fatalities then too.

It's becoming increasingly clear that there was far more than (mere) football involved in this disaster. :'(

Not a bad night. Saints managed an away draw to birmingham and the mighty copper bullets made their first african nations semi in 16 years by defeating Sudan.

We outplayed Millwall (no great feat, normally) for 81 minutes with a man less and deservedly won. That gap at the top of the table is very pleasing! 8)
