    I hope Mads Pedersen
    That would be great.
But I've seen too many Danes being worldbeaters in the junior ranks and fading into obscurity being little more than good domestiques in the pro ranks. I'll believe it when I see it.

That said, maybe Pedersen does turn into a new Sagan.
Had we had this game five years ago, and had someone picked Sagan, he'd have scored over 2500 points.

here is a create your own team file for the Emerging Riders game - thanks to search's efforts it should pull through each riders career total -  if a rider you know has scored points pulls through a zero, it means they are likely ineligible.  no claims are made that the list is perfect, there may be older riders that are eligible and glitches in the list but should be a useful starting point

*well you get to test its okay.

Wow, that's a show of some serious Excel skills. :winner:

    Tested it with
    Spoiler (hover to show)
just now, and got zero points (instead of 146) - I guess he's one of the 'older riders that are eligible'?
There's no age limit as such, right, so we can pick whoever we want - as long as they are below a career total of 200 CQ points?

even if I used a list of older riders it would still have brought through the wrong value as for some reason he has two uci codes - if people see that others have been missed perhaps PM me.

Your right, I should have been doing that.  Now on the opening post where I will update from time to time as I log incoming teams into the spreadsheet, but copied here as well:
Teams in as of late on 2nd January (UK time):
Afrank, Armchair Cyclist, Blackbandit222, Comodoro, Dazed and Confused, Il Pirata, Jakob747, Just Some Guy, Kazistuta, Leadbelly, Mellow Velo, MC Mountain, NairoQ, Ruudz0r, Fool on the Hill.

15 teams so far, but still more than 4 weeks to research the juniors results (like I didn't...)

    Rules say no:
An emerging rider, for the purposes of this game, is anyone with a lifetime CQ total of less than 200 points as at the end of 2013

Anyone in their right mind should pick Ewan anyway.

An emerging rider, for the purposes of this game, is anyone with a lifetime CQ total of less than 200 points as at the end of 2013: they can be any age.  There is a budget per rider, but no team budget as such (you can't spend on one rider what you save on another).
    <snip>
The main CQ game will (quite rightly) be uppermost in people's thoughts, and so I'll delay the closing date until the end of January: in a three year game, scores from one month won't make that big a difference.  Teams to me by PM.

i read this to mean that any points earned in January would be 'free' and have no impact on eligibility.

As Fus and MC M have already correctly surmised, the relevant cut off for eligibility is the end of 2013.

I gave an end of January cut off to give people time to consider the CQ games with earlier cut off dates, and because in the scope of a three year game, with riders who can probably be expected to gain many more points in 2016 than 2014, any advantage gained by waiting to see whi is in form or has points banked in the warm up phase of the first season seems negligible.  And if any selected rider gets an injury this month that is likely to impinge greatly on their long term points haul, then teams already submitted can be modified.

23 teams so far, with 100 riders between them, including 44 unique picks, and one universal pick. 20 teams have at least one unique pick.

Still 19 days 3 1/2 hours to go...

The OP says, "An emerging rider, for the purposes of this game, is anyone with a lifetime CQ total of less than 200 points as at the end of 2013: they can be any age. "

There was a request on CN for clarification about riders costing exactly 200: I took the literal text as the decider.
I could equally easily have written 200 or less, but that isn't what I wrote, and it would seem unjust to change the rule after the game has started, even if it is only one rider that this makes a difference for.

The threshold needs to be somewhere: there will always be a potentially good choice who lies just above.

I repeat the apology that I have already made to JSG in a PM for not drawing attention to the discrepancy sooner.

Unlike most games, there is no complicated budget rebalancing necessary to replace Ahlstrand: simply choose any replacement who is below the maximum cost.

it appears this post bringing the 199 score to light and some what I thought was light hearted banter, has been taken as a put down to AC and the work he is putting in.

I have apologised via PM to AC.

but want to do so publicly.

no offence was meant I call all people doing these games the grand poobar, taken fromthe flintstones.

Sorry AC was meant as a way of saying the organiser or Boss.

SORRY once again and thanks for running the game

30 teams in so far (see OP)

I will be at a family gathering next weekend, so no team analysis until the Monday evening, but I can tell you already that there are a few very popular riders, none of which are universal picks, but two are pretty close to it.

Good luck to all, especially those quickly cobbling a team together at the 11th hour.
