Once again, it is time for the African Continental Championships!

This year, they're held in the Egyptian resort city Sharm-el-Sheikh.

The course for the ITTs and TTTs (21 km):

The course for the road races (31 km):

As far as I can tell from the rather bad profiles in the race bible, the course's altitude varies between 0 m and 100 m - but I'm not sure I interpret the profiles correctly (that's how bad they are).

Team Time Trial – Men Elite & U23 63 km

Sunday 1 December:
Team Time Trial – Women Junior 21 km
Team Time Trial – Women Elite 42 km

Monday 2 December:
Individual Time Trial – Women Junior 21 km
Individual Time Trial - Women Elite 21 km

Wednesday 4 December:
Road Race Men Junior 93 km

The race bible (half of which consists of meaningless addresses by officials)

Apparently, there will be some sort of updates on the Tropicale website. And then there's Twitter, if you know who to follow.

Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Yesterday saw the ITTs for Women Junior:

    Men Junior:

Ivan is the younger brother of #mtn2013 rider Jaco, but there's no relation between Morne and Dennis.

    Women Elite:

This morning the men's ITT was held. Results:

It appears the organisation of the whole thing leaves much to be desired. Chaos in abundance. It started with race officials sending the juniors on the wrong way during the TTT on Saturday, which led to the Men Junior TTT to be re-run on Sunday, and the other TTTs scheduled for Saturday being postponed as well:

When it finally went ahead on Sunday, Namibia missed the podium by 0.75 seconds. And that with a team consisting of ... well, read for yourself:

The organisation didn't get much better yesterday:

Today will also see the first road race (Women Junior). Let's hope all goes well.

Today, I got stuck in a terrible traffic jam in Sharm El Sheikh because of a so called "International Bicycle Race". The whole city came to a standstill. I saw incompetence, ignorance, inefficiency, stupidity, and terrible planning by the various authorities that are organizing this event. It is meant to promote tourism and encourage tourists to return and visit Egypt. What this event did was the complete opposite. Tourists who arrived at Sharm airport could not reach their hotels. People leaving Sharm El Sheikh could not reach the airport and missed their flights, ambulances could not get in or out of hospitals, people could not reach their work, tourists could not reach their boats to go on boat trips, etc.... A complete mess and inefficiency by those organizing this event, which no one will be interested to watch as it will not be broadcasted anywhere in the world except in Egypt. What a mess !!!
