Update #12: Points galore can't topple the leader

As expected, week #12 of the 2014 cq ranking game ended in an overflow of points, nearly 100 participants scored 500 or more - but was this enough for anyone to overthrow the leader Geraint Too Fast? The answer is "no - it wasn't", another solid week for him was enough to maintain the top of the ranking, with upcoming Pentacycle and SteelyDan following closely.

With the overload of cycling races the points came from various sources, some gained them in Spain, where Contador could increase his score again, others in Italy from young Kennaugh or in Belgium and France, where John Degenkolb, Peter Sagan and Jicé Peraud gained glory

So did anyone have all of them? No, of course not, but EvansIsTheBest came close, Contador, Degenkolb and Kennaugh made him score 964 points which was enough to become this week's top point scorer. Also Somar13, despite having a pool of only 29 riders, and Trudgin scored more than 900 points. This weeks Top are rounded out by The_Hitch and Team_Roubaix.

It also were Somar13 and Trudgin who thereby became this week's high movers, followed by kiilike, Netserk and Team Roubaix.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1   EvansIsTheBest   964
    2   Somar13   931
    3   Trudgin   907
    4   The Hitch   866
    5   Team_Roubaix   846

    This Week's High Movers

    1   Somar13   (+51)
    2   Trudgin   (+48)
    3   kiilike   (+36)
    4   Netserk   (+30)
    4   Team_Roubaix   (+30)

    This Month's Top Scorers

    1   SteelyDan   2034
    2   MCardinalR   2026
    3   EvansIsTheBest   1947
    4   Pentacycle   1927
    5   Yellow Knight   1912

    This Month's High Movers

    1   minessa   (+85)
    2   Trudgin   (+82)
    3   Netserk   (+78)
    4   R_O_Shipman   (+77)
    4   Grimm   (+77)

    Top 10 Overall

    1   (-)   Geraint Too Fast   3612
    2   (+2)   Pentacycle   3581
    3   (-1)   SteelyDan   3555
    4   (-1)   Yellow Knight   3415
    5   (+21)   EvansIsTheBest   3361
    6   (+12)   del1962   3289
    7   (-2)   freshman   3272
    8   (+9)   MCardinalR   3260
    9   (-1)   Ruvu75   3254
    10   (+11)   Oliveira   3251

Point wise week #13 of the cq ranking game is likely to be much calmer, but with the Driedaagse de Panne and especially the Ronde van Vlaanderen coming up this cannot be said about the kind of racing we can expect - and those with the cobbles classics contenders in their teams will keep their fingers crossed for their guys to deliver.

Top 10!  :D Better I enjoy it before the next update. This last couple of weeks there have been a small pointer in my team (Di Grégorio/Swift/Kennaugh) that keeps pushing it up as Conta do its magic. Next week there's no Conta, gonna be tough to keep up.

Urgh - I still have 7 riders (total cost 239) who haven't scored a single point this season. 27/33 scoring less than 100. A third of my riders (total cost 3365) still giving me only a single-digit % return, and now Yogi -my 3rd highest scoring rider - breaks his back.

Not a good time for team CJ.

BUT: among my low scorers are... Westra and Nordhaug, Pinot and Rohan Dennis, Amets, Pierre Rolland and Thomas de Gendt. Uranuran isn't exactly having a stellar season.

Perhaps I'm too far behind now, but I'm optimistically hoping for a late-season surge.

Don't worry CJ, I'm in the same boat - I haven't got many cobbles guys (or classics guys full stop) so it's just a case of gritting your teeth I think till after this period.

Annoying question time, but is there any way to work out how far we are through the season? Not in terms of time, but in terms of points.

    2013 total points scored 249292

    2014 to date 51159

So in theory we are only just over 20% there. Subject to someone correcting my numbers.

Maybe it's my scientist brain/OCD, but 249292 is annoyingly not a round number. Couldn't they find an arbitrary 708 points somewhere to make it a total quarter-million? Most 27th place finishes, maybe??

Preety bad RvV, Boasson Hagen not turning his good legs into points, but a solid week during the smaller 1 day races with Beletti, Kreder, Paterski and Hesjedal getting top 10 positions. Scored between 200-250 pips I believe...

    Next week:

    Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

    CONTADOR Alberto
    CHAVES Johan Esteban
    KENNAUGH Peter
    SWIFT Ben
    SCHLECK Andy
    HESJEDAL Ryder
    BRAJKOVIč Janez
    KESSIAKOFF Fredrik
    VAN DEN BROECK Jurgen
    SANCHEZ Luis Leon

I expect Contador to top 3. Hope Hesjedal, Lulu and VdB to be better here than in Catalunya, and Kessiakoff to took off. All in all, a solid bunch I believe.

Circuit Cycliste Sarthe - Pays de la Loire

    NIZZOLO Giacomo
    BELLETTI Manuel
    FEILLU Romain
    KREDER Michel

Hoping for Nizzolo to show some better legs.

    Scheldeprijs

    FENN Andrew
    GUARDINI Andrea
    NUYENS Nick
    HOOGERLAND Johnny

Guardini to podium would be nice!

    Grand Prix Cerami

    HOOGERLAND Johnny
    BATTAGLIN Enrico

Colbrelli's 1st win of the season  ;) massive TEAM ATTACK by Bardiani with Battaglin 2nd!

    Klasika Primavera de Amorebieta

    QUINTANA Dayer
    SANCHEZ Luis Leon

Hoping Valverde to do not start, so Lulu can get some motivation ftw!

    Paris - Roubaix

    BOONEN Tom
    KEUKELEIRE Jens
    BOASSON HAGEN Edvald

    Eddy Boss/Wiggins to do a Hushovd/Vansummeren on Spartacus:s

(only a short update today, I am not at home at the moment...)

Update #13: Dutch lead on the Pavé

The first part of the big pavé classics season ended with a surprise and Pentacycle at the top after week #13 of the CQ Ranking game 2014. A score of 276 points was enough to take the lead from Geraint Too Fast.
Contador's 56 points from today's first stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco were included in this update, but even without that, it had just been enough to keep up the momentum from the last weeks, when he moved up 17 spots in just 14 days.

This week's Top Scorer is Tanja, the only team with Fabian Cancellara, whereby she also became this week's highest mover.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1   tanja   552
    2   Grimm   477
    3   CQmanager   463
    4   search   398
    5   lenissart   371

    This Week's High Movers

    1   tanja   (+40)
    2   CQmanager   (+33)
    3   zlev11   (+17)
    3   Panda Claws   (+17)
    3   coinneach   (+17)

    Top 10 Overall

    1   (+1)   Pentacycle   3857
    2   (-1)   Geraint Too Fast   3793
    3   (+1)   Yellow Knight   3731
    4   (-1)   SteelyDan   3730
    5   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   3599
    6   (+2)   MCardinalR   3559
    7   (+2)   Ruvu75   3548
    8   (+2)   Oliveira   3546
    9   (-2)   freshman   3480
    10   (-4)   del1962   3478

With Contador currently leading the Vuelta al Pais Vasco Pentacycle can hope to retain the lead in week #14. Or will a suprise winner at Paris Roubaix give us a new leader again?! We will see next week, when the grand cq game founder Hugo Koblet takes over to bring back some style to this ;)

    Spreadsheet / CQ Update #13

(the points for Beltran have been adjusted, so 5 more for everyone with him)

Update #14: The dust settles on the Cobbled Classics

As teased by search last week Hugo was due to take over the updates this week, but Hugo is on a few days vacation so has asked me to cover for him.  Contador and Kwiatkowski were both big scorers this week at Pais Vasco, with other notable contributions from Peraud, Pinot, Poels, Evans, Cunego, Yates, Swift and Villella.  Elsewhere during the week, Scheldeprijs pulled in points for Danny Van Poppel, Sam Bennett and Andrea Guardini.  Over in South America Winner Anacona was second in the Colombia Nationals Road Race.  Paris Roubaix wasnt perhaps the points bonanza it could have been but Degenkolb, Stybar, Sagan and Wiggins all scored well.

It was a good week for some of the big names in CQ games, former winner Skidmark rose several places and perpetual high finisher The Hitch also made a push, as did Will10, with 3rd best score of the week and the most places moved up.  First and second on the weekly scoring are now third and second respectively on the overall ranking.  Rywann has the glorious combination of Contador and Kwiatkowski, but also has Yates, Villella and Colli.  Although without Anacona he does have the 3rd rider from the Nats in Juan Suarez.  A weekly score of 1010 is enough for him to jump 10 places to 3rd.  Freshman now in second place (up 7 places) also paired the 1st and 2nd from Pais Vasco, and got 100+ scores from Evans and Stybar.  The other 2 teams with both the Spaniard and the Pole - Martin and Milanello also understandable had good weeks and are 6th and 12th in the overall.

At the top Pentacycle had another solid week, and stretches his lead still further - does he have the team to keep him there while Contador takes a break?

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1. rywann 1010
    2. freshman 986
    3. will10 926

    Ranking in Full
    Spoiler (hover to show)

With the Ardennes to come the teams with Gerrans (from the current top 10 - Geraint too Fast, Ruvu75) on their books will hope to return to the ascendancy as will the Betacurists (SteelyDan) , the Gilbertenites  (Pentacycle, Freshman and Martin) will hope their man will make his mark.  Will Kwiatkowski (Freshman, rymann, Geraint Too Fast, Martin and SteelyDan) further emerge as a force in one day races as well as stages races.  Will Moser repay the faith many of us showed by selecting him or will another rider break out to become a key rider in the 2014 game.

so if any one care thought I would have a look at my fan boy based team again

even though I have scored 4000 points I have a lot of dead weight

Phinny will have to have a brilliant tour and WC to break even

Moser where to start hopefully this next 2 weeks

Rolland better go full retard for the Giro

JVDB still could go ok but not holding my breath

König I think will be ok as his year starts soonish

    Basso ummm see Rolland

KISERLOVSKI I guess will lead trek at the tour will the brothers so should be ok

Offredo ummmm 90 points only so will be a good pick next year :lol

Markus can not see him breaking even at this stage which is disappointing

Morton will be back at bargin price for team jsg 2015

Ewan still holding out for a good win or 2 after August

Sad Haymen did not sneak a top 10 at P-R will be hard for him to break even now

Evans is looking solid for the 1000 I said

Gerro better have the  sniper aim on next weeks

    Happy Nava won last week

    Postman Sam Guru

still a lot of people who need to do well but sitting 16th only 400 points off a top 10 and a lot of my GC guys are Giro bound so all in all still happy

Keepin on a great 8th position! :D Quite surprised though as my 3 "over-400-points" riders apart Velasco are clearly underperforming: Boasson Hagen, Úran and Nizzolo.

I think Ben Swift is making a big difference in my favour, without him aboard I would probably never been mentioned on an update.

Anyway, some tough weeks ahead as my best Ardennes guy is probably Moser. I hope to get points in minor races to keep afloat until Giro.

I'm more positive about EBH chances here than in cobbled stuff. Actually I'm praying he goes to Giro and skips the Tour. There's a whole big bunch of points in August-October for him to score. His kind of stuff like Wallonie, Eneco, Plouay, Vattenfall, Canada's, Paris - Tours, WC... For the others in my team here they are underdogs but who knows one of them could do well. Swift and Kreder the most likely imo. Not sure about Battaglin's hand...

One more Top 20 Romain! Let's go for 5 more points!!!
