Plenty of time to consider your #CQYouth team!

I reckon a large proportion of my big boy CQ team could qualify for the youth game... I'll give it some thought.

Well, it's Sunday, December 29th (at least here in Canada)... just a reminder that there is ONE WEEK until the deadline for submissions!

Six days to go, guys! So far, 46 teams are enrolled, including 21 new entries! Will this be the biggest version of the game yet? In many ways, I hope so, but 46 teams has already been daunting, data-entry wise... awww, what the hell? I love this game and want to see TONS of people participate. Let's bring this home!

Yeah, I think it will be the biggest one to date, by some margin.

Had a couple people register an account thus far, but I see they haven't submitted their teams (yet?). Maybe one of them will eventually... In the mean time I'll advertise the game on a dutch forum if my account is approved in time. :-x

I see they already have a CQ game of their own, where you can bid on riders, and a (any) rider can only be picked by one team. Seems like a fun game also, that could be organized months before the main game(s), as a bidding war determines the prices of the riders, as opposed to the rider values on December 31st or January 1, or whatever.

Yeah, not big on the thinly-veiled racism that I sometimes encounter there, either, but the blind nationalism is the main reason why I lurk there occasionally. Some topics are pure comedic gold.

thanks for doing this, (its a shame they're so touchy about it!)  if it helps feel free to lay the blame on me as a non-dutch speaker who asked for a favour.

as for an auction game if there is interest (and perhaps more importantly someone who wants to run it) I could look at building a spreadsheet for it (working out rules and running auctions would be too much for me to take on).  would probably need to be a limit on number of teams I guess, perhaps some more thought on another day!

I was part of an auction game for the last two seasons. It's far more work (for everyone involved) than this simple, "classic" game, and it isn't really worth it in terms of extra enjoyment.
Of course, people shouldn't let that stop themselves if they're keen. It's just my personal experience.

Yeah, I just posted a reply that it wasn't about promoting the websites CN and/or VR, but it's no use, as the the resident e- "alpha male" (one of the most vocal players of their CQ game, anyhow) was the first one to respond and shout down the "intruder," LOL. I didn't think it would be too intrusive to promote the game on their dedicated cycling games sub forum, but then again maybe it was. Ah well.

its easier to cut and paste from a PM (just the riders, no points).

Yes, it is indeed. And I want to send out a reminder to stick to the format outlined in the opening post - I have been getting some entries with typos, lower case last names, points, and the most insidious of errors, spaces before or after the name. Any of these will cause it not to read in the spreadsheet.

Hey, I've been noticing a few minor changes in the latest (and final) 2013 CQ update.  None of the already submitted teams have been put over the limit by this, so if you have already submitted a team you need not worry. But I've readjusted the create your team spreadsheet to reflect these changes. There are a couple of fairly popular picks that are 1 point higher or so for whatever reason, so please use the updated create your team sheet (or CQ download) to check your team if you haven't submitted it yet. I've updated the original post to link to the new sheet, or you can just click https://www.dropbox.com/s/er4jvbzlr5pc33y/Create%20Your%20Team.xls

Team submitted: time to have courage in the convictions and not constantly revisit the shortlist.

All but 2 points of budget used.  One rider drafted in at last minute who hadn't been shortlisted (but who I had considered, but rejected, for the emerging riders game).

    6 riders between 500 and 800 pts
    4 between 300 and 500 pts
    8 between 100 and 300
    7 between 50 and 100
    7 between 1 and 50
    1 freebie.

    10 aged 30+
    10 aged 25-29
    5 aged 23-24
    8 aged 20-22

    11 from BeNeLux
7 from other traditional powerhouse nations
    2 eastern European
    2 Scandanavian
    9 non-European
    9 Anglophone

    5 non-World Tour

and 11 members of the Velorooms team

A little less than 3 days to go and we've already got 81 teams entered! That's only 6 less than the first year, and 42 entries away from the most entrants yet. Keep 'em coming, folks!

ok - team finally submitted.   I didnt give it that much thought though, so I am not really that confident about it :lol

as for an auction game if there is interest (and perhaps more importantly someone who wants to run it) I could look at building a spreadsheet for it (working out rules and running auctions would be too much for me to take on).  would probably need to be a limit on number of teams I guess, perhaps some more thought on another day!

If you wanted to do a spreadsheet for it that was easier to update/maintain, the prediction game was really fun ... but it was a lot of effort to do the updates/scores as I was doing it manually ... (and truth be told have still not finalised it :lol though Hitch won in a landslide)

Just over 24 hours to go, and including unprocessed teams, we have 115 participants. Assuming many people have been saving for the last day, we should blow past the 132 high of last year.

One issue - I am on vacation and our plans tomorrow involve going to a remote island off the coast of British Columbia overnight. That means that I might not have internet access. Practically, this means I'll only be able to release the full list of teams on the 6th sometime. But it also means that it's possible if I get enough last minute entries that my inbox might be full (I'm keeping it clear but it can only hold 50). I'll suss it out tomorrow, but I might ask for someone to volunteer as a proxy in the remote case that there are too many entries for my inbox. Between cyclingnews and here, I don't see 100 new people entering in a day, but you never know.

I'm done. Finally. With 2 points to spare.

    1000+: 0
    500-999: 3
    300-499: 8
    150-299: 5
    100-149: 5
    50-99: 3
    1-49: 4
    0: 5

23 World Tour, 10 non-WT (of whom a risky 3 are only Continental).

8 native English speakers, although only 2 from my home country. 3 from my adopted home country and 12 from countries I have never even visited.

And I am predicting either total domination or utter failure. Place your bets ;)
