Just seen this, how the hell am I top 10? I suppose 618% profit on Kennaugh helps, but still..

Now need to consolidate and make sure I stay ahead of JSG :D

4 Vuelta stage wins & KOM jersey (sorry, even a believer like me can't believe in his GC chances), then Worlds, then Lombardia, finally Beijing - everything is still possible! :D

yes, and Cunego to win the Vuelta, Hoogerland to win Lombardia and EBH to become world champion. Sounds like my way back into the top 100 is carved in stone...

    Geriant to fast update

    Update #32: Pentacycle breaks away

When I signed up to do this set of updates I was expecting them to be fairly quiet, with the big late season moves waiting until the Vuelta. How wrong I was! Before I get to the overall rankings, I should give some credit to asdfgh101 for being the weeks top scorer and highest mover. There were a few riders who scored triple figures this week and asdfgh101 had four of them - Wellens, Thomas, Kruijswijk, & Brajkovic, who all helped to make up the only 800+ score of this update. The 2nd best team this week is vladimir, but in 3rd and 4th we have two of the overall contenders, Pentacycle & minessa.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1.   asdfgh101   862
    2.   vladimir   776
    3.   Pentacycle   727
    4.   minessa   654
    5.   Jakob747   612

    This Week's High Movers

    1.   asdfgh101   (+32)
    2.   vladimir   (+27)
    3.   the asian   (+19)
    3.   LaFlorecita   (+19)
    3.   DJ Sprtsch   (+19)

It was an average week for many in the overall top 10, and the high scorers have really taken advantage of this. Minessa jumps five places to 2nd, but it is Pentacycle who steals the show this week - he is the first team to pass 10000 points for the year, and in the process increases his lead to over 500 points! It's also interesting to note that the points difference between 1st and 2nd is now bigger than the difference between 2nd and 11th.
Despite the action at the top of the rankings, there are no new names in the top 10 this week.

    Top 10 Overall

    1.   (-)   Pentacycle   10418
    2.   (+5)   minessa   9909
    3.   (+3)   Cykeltyven   9885
    4.   (-2)   The Hitch   9802
    5.   (-2)   *Falze*   9800
    6.   (-2)   PeterB   9755
    7.   (-2)   freshman   9700
    8.   (+1)   Geraint Too Fast   9579
    9.   (-1)   MCardinalR   9574
    10.   (-)   Slow_Rider   9570

    update via shalgo

    Update #33: Going Postal

Most teams did not get very many points this week, but that cannot be said for the week's top scorer, uspostal. Starting the week in 146th place out of 150, uspostal was the top scorer by a whopping 160 points, thanks to TJVG, Busche, and Howes in Colorado, as well as Nizzolo in Germany. This impressive haul did not bring him into the list of the week's high movers, however (moving him up only to 136th overall). Instead, it was greenedge who moved up 17 places overall, in large part (not surprisingly) to the Orica Greenedge riders Gerrans and Matthews.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1   uspostal   670
    2   Yellow Knight   510
    3   Bicycle_Boy   463
    4   greenedge   462
5   Blues in the bottle   437

    This Week's High Movers

    1   greenedge   (+17)
    2   Bicycle_Boy   (+14)
    2   Kazistuta   (+14)
    4   ironsscally   (+13)
    5   CraZyCaLL   (+11)

In the overall competition, Pentacycle extended his lead to 654 points. 2nd through 10th are separated by less than 200 points! The main change in the top ten this week was Oliveira's return after an absence of several weeks, and Slow_Rider's departure. Looking ahead to the Vuelta, the key factors in determining the victor may be the performances of Quintana, Contador, and Uran: of the top ten, three have Contador, one has Quintana, two have Uran, one has Quintana and Contador, and three have Contador and Uran.

    Top Ten Overall:

    1 (-)   Pentacycle   10655
    2 (+1) Cykeltyven   10001
    3 (-1) minessa   9948
    4 (-)   The Hitch   9932
    5 (-)   *Falze*   9882
    6 (-)   PeterB   9847
    7 (+4) Oliveira   9846
    8 (-1) freshman   9826
    9 (-1) Geraint Too Fast   9811
    10 (-1) MCardinalR   9806

    Shalgo update

    Update #34: Hugo on Top

Another low-scoring week. The top scorer this week was our game's esteemed founder, Hugo Koblet, and even he had no rider with more than 86 points. the_fool_on_the_hill was the top mover, gaining nine places.

    1 Hugo Koblet    364
    2    vladimir   348

    2 ray200 (+8)

With Quintana out from Vuelta this is looking good for my side, being 5th with Contador, Úran, Aru and Anacona in my team for some good GC points. Anyway, I feel that a climb to the top after Vuelta is on Nizzolo's shoulders as he is my most unique pick from the 300+ points fellas. My Vuelta GC guys keeping out of trouble with some nice sprints by Nizzolo boy in Brussels and Fourmies would be very sweet indeed... GO GIACOMO!!!

edit: it took a better look to the stats to end my optimism.... :-x 900p difference is too much...

    Update #36: Into the Homestretch

As could be expected with the large number of points on offer at the Vuelta, Tour of Britain, Quebec City, and Montreal (along with many other races), many teams had significant point hauls and there were large jumps and falls in the standings. Our overall leader, Pentacycle, remains the same. He also still has a lead of more than 400 points, though it did shrink this week. The rest of the top 10 saw many changes, including the entrances of rywann, EvansIsTheBest, and tomazo. tomazo jumped 11 places, from 21st to 10th.

Freshman, *Falze*, and PeterB fell out of the top ten, the latter slipping all the way from 8th to 28th. In the end, whether one has Contador or not is proving decisive.

TheHitch was perhaps particularly eager to see this week's update as he moves into third place overall.

will10 was our top scorer this week, with 1780 points, led by Contador, Aru, and Navardauskas. This was enough to move him from 9th to 5th overall.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1   will10   1780
    2   skidmark   1732
    3   merengues   1730
    4   tomazo   1686
    5   The Hitch   1645

As mentioned above, there were many significant moves in the standings this week. Our high mover, merengues, jumped an astonishing 45 places--from 112th to 67th, with points from (among many others) Contador, Aru, Van Baarle, and Barguil. There were so many large moves this week that skidmark, who jumped from 44th to 24th, does not even make the high movers list. It is also worth noting that greenedge has made this list 3 out of the last 4 weeks, in the process moving from 110th to 56th overall.

    This Week's High Movers

    1 merengues +45
    2 Lortnoc +37
    3 marthaagard +35
    4 mutschi +26
    5 greenedge +21

    Top Ten Overall

also the above is the drop box, but I can not open it, anyone able to do some magic and post the results,  some said it is open office fwiw

    Hitch update

Update #37: The first leaves of autumn.
The imminent arrival of the offseason begins to be felt with as quiet and uneventful week as there has been since March. The 2014 cycling season prepares for one final song, with a monument and a couple of world championship titles for its encore, so it is not over just yet. The same however cannot be said for the overall competition. Pentacycle has a lead so big, it would be internet fantasy sporting history for someone to catch him now.

On the other hand the battle for the other spots is far from over. Cycletyven, who sees his lead over 3rd place decrease slightly, remains in pole position, though at just over 100 to 3rd and 200 to 5th it is far from comfortable. Oliveria leaps above me and now takes the coveted 3rd podium spot, as does will10 who continues on the late season form shown in his truimphant stage win last week by jumping into 4th. Only 70 points however seperate us 3.

Behind us by a small margin of 200, there is a 3rd group on the road working together, all well within reach of the podium in the next few weeks, before the main peloton begins.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    1   Leadbelly    469

    3   Nicosix    421
    4   trotters aotearoa    382
    5   tanja    381

AS far as the stage goes, Leadbelly takes the glory in both catergories as both highest scorer and mover. Well done to you leadbelly, making it a succesful campaign. Tanja trotters aotearoa and Nicosix join him in enjoying success in both catergories while Zam continues his great late season form with a 2nd place on points putting him in good position I think to challenge for the monthly crown maybe in 2 weeks.

    This Week's High Movers
    1   Leadbelly    (+13)

Woo Hoo! Thanks Hitch and thank you sports fans. Finally some success and another target for this year's competition crossed out.

All down mainly to the unlikely trio of Sonny Boy Colbrelli, Rohan Dennis and Magic Paterski.

    Big Changes after worlds
It was an eventful week as world championship weeks brought a lot of points to the table but not a lot of point scoring places (unlike stage races where points are more evenly distributed). As a result some people scored bucketloads while others recorded next to nothing.

The biggest profiteer is Cj2002 who scored a whopping 835 points, making him the weeks highest mover as well.
He was pushed close though as he, Grimm, DJ Sprtsch and GTF all scored higher than the week's bottom 11 scorers put together.

Also noteworthy are Leadbelly who features at the top of "highest movers" for the second week in a row making it 27 places in 2 weeks, and cq2014's early leader Gerrainttoofast who's third place and 781 bring him back into the top 10.

At the top, after dominating for pretty much the entire season, Pentacycle's lead is down to the lowest its been since I can't remember when as Cycletyven puts daylight between himself and the rest of the top 10 with a strong 430 point week and is now under 300 points behind the leader. Competition? The gap is actually, finally manageable, with a few Italian classics one big one and a stage race or 2 still to come. Pentacycle does however remain a heavy favourite. Even on this down week he still outscored 7 of the 9 names that made up last week's top 10.

    This Week's Top Scorers
    1   cj2002            835

  • Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

373 points and you dropped two spots to 31st. You've extended your lead over Arb by a couple of hundred.

Ok so I have started looking at 2015, between projects.

I have wondered if the points need to be looked at

7500 has been the mark, but that was for an average team, say 9th WT, now the 9th team is at about 8500 , 7400ish is FDJ at 14th spot.

    I suggest 8500 for 2015.

1 cause I think maybe it might be good to look at the scores every say 5 years

2 cause it might make my strategy easier  ;)

Can't see the need myself. If it ain't broke etc.

The only way I could see that an increase of points would be necessary would be if CQ re-jigged their point scoring or if there was a universal increase (10%+) across pro cyclists of days raced. Neither of which has happened I believe.

On the negative side increasing the total points would increase homogenization between teams by the simple fact that there's less riders available at higher scores than at lower ones, and you could argue that the higher the cost the less likely people are to take risks with their picks.

So I say no. You have to cut your cloth according to your means.

    @JSG - I just dont think reason 2 is a good enough reason.  :P

Reassess every 5 years is sensible but the reality is its gets reassessed every year and the status quo gets reaffirmed.

if WT teams are scoring more than previously (they are it appears) then that likely means less points to riders on Pro Conti teams. but these riders are still part of the game.

It looks like asdfgh101's new game for 2015 as proposed in CN will have more points available to allow picking higher priced riders.

    Update 39 The End

Ok, as last year showed things can still change in the final few months of the season, with 1 wt race and a bunch of smaller ones to go. But really, that is only true for tightly contested spots. The GTS have all finished, the worlds have all finished, the monuments have all finished, the WT has pretty much finished and all the big scoring races are over. Pentacycle with over a 300 point lead is very safe as this year's champion, and with an even greater lead over 3rd, Cykleteven even more safe in his podium spot.

Unfortunately I cannot say the same for myself sitting in the very volotile 3rd spot that has changed every week. Less than 100 points seperate me Will, Oliveria, Minessa and rywann in a 5 way battle royal for the final podium which will take the place of last years battle for first.

In the weekly rankings, vladimir continues a very high scoring finale to the season with another stage win, and by quite some margin. A greater margin seperates vladimir and 2nd place Nicosix than covers the entire next 50 scorers for the week.

Consolation though for Nicosix comes in the high movers list, which he tops with 11.

    This Week's Top Scorers1   vladimir            651
    2   Nicosix            478
    3   Jakob747            456
    4   Londonpat            456
    5   the_fool_on_the_hill            440

    This Week's High Movers
       1   Nicosix                     (+11)
    2   the_fool_on_the_hill                     (+10)
    3   Londonpat                     (+9)
    4   TeoSheva                     (+8)
    5   Jakob747                     (+7)

    Top Ten Overall
    1   Pentacycle   13625
    2   Cykeltyven   13290
    3   The Hitch   12911
    4   will10   12853
    5   Oliveira   12819
    6   minessa   12816
    7   rywann   12813
    8   Ruudz0r   12639
    9   Kazistuta   12519
    10   freshman   12475

    Month

With the worlds, Vuelta and Lombardia I think this was the highest scoring month. No surprise then to see the 2nd and 4th place overall feature, as well as a former winner. Rywann wins the month while vladimir amazingly follows up 1st place last month with 2nd this. Interestingly none of the top scorers feature in the top movers list, won by knallertjeblaf, testament of all of them having high positions to begin with.

    This month's top scorers
    1   rywann   3125
    2   vladimir   3119
    3   will10   3075
    4   skidmark   3046
    5   Cykeltyven   2994

    This month's high jumpers
    1   knallertjeblaf   (+45)
    2   greenedge   (+44)
3   Blues in the bottle   (+32)
    4   wizard_of_oz   (+31)
    5   GP Blanco   (+28)

    Congrats to all

I guess Ill have to agree with Leadbelly on this one, and not only because it's going quit well :D). With so many points involved we will probably end up with much more similar teams predominantly consisting of WT riders.

But I'm sure my first draft will cost me +8000 so I can understand you JSG.

Hey guys, sorry I didn't realize this week's update wasn't covered and yesterday was a holiday in Canada so I was off the grid spending time with family. I'll do the update in the next 24 hours.

In the meantime, I'm thinking about an end plan for the rest of the season. Here is what the rules say, copied from the opening post:

The season starts when the first race is held (which I believe is the Aussie National TT Championships on January 8th) and ends when the last major race (.1 or higher) is held. The winner will be crowned when the next update after the last major race is out. **New rule: any of the top 15 teams have the right to submit for an extension to the season before the end of the last major race. If no teams do so by that time, the season will end at the time stated above.**

Now, I realize the last major race is, I think, Tour of Taihu Lake, which is November 1st-9th. For all intents and purposes, I think the Japan Cup is a pretty last gasp for most of the riders represented in this game, and it would be nice to have a timely wrap-up, especially given that the final result for 1st place seems at least to be sewn up. I was thinking that maybe we could have a wrap-up summary after this weekend (which will include the GC of Beijing and Japan Cup) and unofficially crown a winner, and then for those who are still invested in placings I can offer a couple of updates until the 'official' end of the season. Does that sound good?

I'd love to hear people's thoughts, especially those in the above-mentioned top 15.
