Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Am I the only one who is disappointed by Drapac's lack of success in GC's so far this year?

This isn't the weakest Pro-Conti roster (even compared to Europe) competing against 3 conti teams and amateurs and they have managed to mess up NZ Cycle classic, Perth and now Adelaide. The likes of Sulzberger, Meyer, Clarke and Cantwell should be obliterating these guys and it's not like their doms are slacking off either - guys like Johnson, Anderson, Phelan and Palmer have been riding their backsides off and could lead most NRS squads outright.

Hmm, not sure. I'd imagine that Michael Drapac would have some expectations of the squad, especially Meyer and Sulzberger who I understand are aiming to get back in to the top flight. Couldn't help but notice that Meyer was carrying a few kg's more than usual over the summer and some of the local NRS guys had him hurting in crits over the off season.

Wippert is flying ATM but IMHO he's close to WT level. Having said this, I don't know what their main aims are for the year. Chances are they could be looking more at the US based stage races later on in the year? I know that Anderson and Johnson in particular are looking at the one day races again as their main targets after their strong results last year (1-2 Grafton - Inverell and strong showings at Warnambool and Goulburn).

It may be nothing to worry about but for a team with ambitions of a GT invite and hoping to race the ToC next year they need to step up a little. NRS stage wins are ok for Div 3 teams but these guys should be taking GC's...

I'd rather have a team sponsor also sponsor a race that the team "happens" to be invited to, than having the money shift hands in a shady backroom deal.
This way it's out in the open at least.

With their new riders and the ones that they've kept on Drapac should have a solid ToC anyway. Kohler, Wippert, Roe, Clarke, Spokes and Meyer are capable of shaking things up a bit. They need races like this to justify their Pro Conti licence anyway IMO. TDU isn't really enough.

I think the above article is written 4-5 years too early tbh, the team were sh*t last year and they need to be a cycling team. It also seems to be a the classic tall poppy syndrom and the Australian cycling way in that if it is not Gerry it is not Good.

Funny thing is I think Big Gerry will want Drapac around and to grow

A very strange article, picking holes in the team's strategy and management just because it's relatively more accessible than the big, opaque WT outfits. I wasn't really sure what point De Neef was really trying to make here.

Well, if nothing else the kit has improved vastly since last season...

After reading that article, I find it difficult to imagine that they'll even exist as a team in two years time. It does remind me of JV's PR about his own team and how that contrasts with the actual sentiments of many of the riders who have spent time there. If you're going to make a big, public show about your team policies, then being put under closer scrutiny for those supposed policies should come as no surprise to those at the helm.

    This was interesting:
    Quote
One race the team did get an invite to is the Tour of California; a coup for Drapac and his largely US-based real estate business.
A point not lost on Chris Horner, I'm sure.

I don't think so at all. Keeping a cycling team afloat is mostly about the economy - you'll always find some riders.
Drapac is footing the bill himself, and I don't think he'll lose interest suddenly after being around for so many years. You never know of course, but I think the money spent on the cycling team is peanuts to him.

I see less big wins for Drapac without Wippert but I'm also confident that they can get more. Mannion is a good pickup and Jones, Norris and Phelan are solid riders who belong at this level at least. Earle will hopefully pick up his results as well.
