This is what Velon are selling or using as a bargaining chip

Not sure many of the current crop of commentators could cope with that tbh

Reading betweet the somewhat foggy management speak above, I think they are looking to start with a product like tour tracker, for the Internet watches, on-board camera footage mixed with drone and heli, motorbike footage, graphics like profiles which show the BOTD and peloton in real position,  heart rates, km/h team radio communication  etc etc all there on your pc. A more advanced tour traker if you will . Once this is working, they will sell to the networks

I don't agree with all of JV's standpoints; but he's trying to make cycling more marketable.

If focusing even more on individual riders and 'battles' between teams' leaders is the way to do that - I'm not sure. What if Contador crashes early in the season, who will Froome, Quintana or Nibali compete against then?
It should be made more of a team sport, also in the public eye. The rider raising his arms on the podium is only the last brick in a big puzzle, just like the goalscorer in football: He gets much of the fame, but the defender who started the attack or the goalkeeper who kept a clean sheet are winning just as much.

What does it mean? I'm a bit confused. Some sort of agreement the riders have to sign about image rights? :?

But it is about to get ugly
What it means is that, once a cyclist signs a contract with a Velon member team, that team owns everything about that rider for at least the duration of the contract.

It goes beyond the current situation where riders can sign individual sponsorship deals - so long as they don't clash with team sponsor products - and get to keep their fees themselves.

Under this arrangement, the riders are utterly and completely marketing pawns of the teams and, by extension, the team's sponsors. They can neither decide what products or events to be associated with, nor refuse to participate - other than of course by resigning from a team.

However, the real kicker is that the rider's name is even now owned by the team. Seriously. Their name is a part of their image and "trademark" (= intellectual property), which the contract would have them sign over to the team.
A high profile example of the impact of these clauses was Tiger Woods, who lost a case against Nike over the use of his name on a restaurant that he was setting up. He wanted to call the place "Tiger Woods" and they said "no, you don't have the right because "Tiger Woods" is our brand. His argument was "it's nothing to do with golf, so it not the brand, it's my name". The court's decision was "yes, it is your name, but Nike still owns it" ...

Sadly, this looks to be another part of the ugly, North American sports league models that Vaughters and his cronies are looking to foist onto cycling.
It has nothing to do with building a better sport - but has lots to do with building a better personal bank account for the team owners.

Wang Jianlin, let's not forget, tried to by the Tour de France not too long ago.

Inrng included him in their run-down of cycling's mega-rich.

Velon partnering with his company, aside from anybody else who might be able to offer an equivalent/superior service, is a shot across the bow of the good ship Amaury.
