It is quite interesting to read that he was grassed up by another rider.

namely one of EBH, Deignan, Cataldo, Swift, Sebastian Henao, Puccio or Sivtsov, by the way.

edit: or not, I misread that. Those up there were racing the Tour of Poland with him, but it happened during that time, so it was none of them

I saw him win the Junior Tour of Wales a few years ago.
He was a very talented rider.
    I'm uneasy about this story.
The sport has suffered too many tragedies with such issues.
I'm a bit concerned that Dan Roan is pushing his agenda a little too hard, with this one. :(

Agreed. For all of the stupidity in BC at the moment, this appears to be a case where the guy really does need some help.

Uneasy is the right word, MV. If Sky really did cover up needle/tramadol use, that is very bad. It would be bad in isolation, but a decent PR team could probably weather the storm. But - as has been pointed out elsewhere[1] - in light of other recent stories, the perception and reporting of this will probably be skewed.

Dan Roan is a journalist pursuing a story... I think this is a valid part of that story, and it is right that it has been brought to light. But if Edmondson - already in a vulnerable condition - becomes collateral damage, then Roan will quickly lose the high ground that he currently occupies.

Kind of afraid this would be the result.
Reading the regs, injecting, or just having the tools to do so gets treated the same.
Clearly, JE is going to get a back dated suspension and labelled a doper by some members of the press.
Hopefully Dan Roan won't fall into that hole.
I really hope that this doesn't drive Josh further into a dark place.

Plenty of riders don't get their contracts renewed, don't make it in the big leagues.

Whatever the actual reason for letting him go (i.e. cover up or not), you don't have to lay into him in the press.

Firstly I've reread what I wrote and I should apologise to you in that I used the words 'You' and 'You're' when I should have avoided the accusational tone with the clunkier, 'If one is 'saying there's no difference, one is losing the argument.' Sorry.

Secondly, I don't agree with the idea that not saying anything when letting someone go isn't sending a message. In my view it sends the message, 'Not good enough'.

The Sky message said, "Needs to grow up and get their s**t together."

I my view a prospective employer is more likely to take a punt on the latter.

    Quote
Retired British cycling star Bradley Wiggins has vowed to "shock a few people" when he finally has his say on doping allegations.

The Tour de France winner and five-time Olympic champion described the claims he may have broken anti-doping rules, which he strongly denies, as "horrible" and "the worst thing to be accused of when you're a man of my integrity".

The former Team Sky rider promised he would have "a lot to say" when UK Anti-Doping has finished its investigation into allegations he was injected with triamcinolone, a powerful corticosteroid, in 2011.

"It's been horrible but fortunately there is an investigation going on," Wiggins told Soccer AM on Sky Sports 1.

"It's the worst thing to be accused of when you're a man of my integrity, if you like, what I believe anyway, and what I've done to get where I am today.

"Fortunately there's an investigation and I obviously can't say too much because that will run its course and then I'll have my say.

"There's a lot to say and it's going to shock a few people."

The only thing thats shocking (and not surprising shocking, but more appalling shocking) is the similarity to his friend Armstrong in his manner.   Honestly - havent we been here before?

I think Dr. Freeman has done well to answer those questions calmly (if calm is an emotion that can be ascribed to writing). He seems very open about his own failings, but also that Sky/BC and he personally have improved the systems.

The cynics will point out that a written answer isn't quite the same as giving televised oral evidence to the Committee, with the chance to be cross-examined by the Members. They may also point out that, without seeing the records[1], none of what he writes about the Dauphine/jiffy bag situation can be verified.

On balance, though, I think - upcoming mixed metaphor alert - that for someone who's been thrown under the bus, Dr. Freeman has done well to keep his head above water.

    From that link:-
    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/team-sky-accused-of-violating-uci-no-needles-policy-with-iv-recovery/

    Quote
A report published on Thursday alleges that Team Sky brought in Dr Fabio Bartalucci to the team in late 2010 for his expertise in using intravenous infusions to aid recovery after riders complained that the team's attempts to be beyond reproach was hampering results.

Bartalucci was among those swept up in San Remo during the 2001 Giro d'Italia when police raided team hotel rooms in search of doping products. Though Bartalucci, then with the Bonjour team was never charged, the blitz led to the expulsion of Dario Frigo from the race. Bartalucci went on to work with Team Phonak before joining Team Sky for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Now I wonder what's missing from CN's (and the BBC and Guardian) resume of Dr Bartalucci's CV ? ;)

Oh yes, he also worked with FDJ (2005 and 2006) and was the personal doctor/coach to the other, better known doping whistleblower at the CMS,  Nicole Cooke in 2008. :lol
No bias editing there then, from our fearless press.

It does however highlight how hard it is to find immaculate medical staff from within the world of pro cycling.
