Allergic to brake hoods?

First off:
PLEASE DON'T QUOTE THIS POST!
(Or if you do, remove the Twitter links)

It's my understanding that if any post containing a Twitter link is quoted, the links then appear more than once in the original post. I don't understand why that is, but it tends to clutter the message. So with that being said...

I found this exchange on Twitter to be rather amusing.

Don't companies generally pay people to follow up on this sort of thing?
It seems like a bit of PR fail.  :-x

The main reason this story is interesting to me though is that I usually prefer to ride without gloves (unless it's cold out). One problem with that though is that on longer rides, the rubber of the brake hoods often irritates the bare skin of my hands (although not in an allergic sense). I thought of wrapping bar tape around the hoods to provide a different surface/texture, but it never occurred to me remove the rubber altogether and wrap tape around the raw parts.

Anyone else have similar experiences or suggested solutions?
Besides suggesting that I wear gloves.  :shh  :D

Yeah, and somebody probably had a bad day at the office when this came through! One of those moments when you lose all your attaboy points.
