2015 Velorooms Collective Team

Registration CLOSED

The 2014 season  has almost come to an end (sorry Echoes) and so has the 2014 CQ game, people are starting to make preparations for the 2015 edition, so let's start another collective attempt as well

not quite sure yet how we are gonna do the selection of the riders, let's first see how many people are interested (leave comment below), two things I can say for sure though is that there will be no VETO and Bingo Froome is banned for 2 years as a result of VETO'ing Alberto out and replacing him with Bikini Carlos last year

The Rules :fanfare

1. There are 27 participants. I have created 3 groups of 4 people and 3 groups of 5 people.

2. Step 1 in the selection procedure is to select 3 riders in a vote. This way we bring down the number to 30, which is easier to work with. :P
So: Every member gets until Sunday to send in a list of 5 riders that should definitely be part of the team in their opinion. There is no price restriction for this round - please use common sense. I will then see which 3 riders got most votes. In the event of a tie I will decide which rider gets selected :o (I won't be sending my list to myself, so this would be my "vote"). If your favorite misses out because of this, fear not, this rider can of course still be selected in the group round.

3. On Sunday, around 4PM CET, I will post the results of the vote and we then enter the next round.

4. I have generated a random order. This is the order in which the groups will be selecting the riders for our team.
The order is:
4
6
5
2
1
3
And to prove it is really a random order :P

5. If you are good at math, you may have already figured out that each group gets to choose 5 riders. To make sure the first group doesn't get to pick all the obvious riders, we will go in turns. We play 3 rounds, so in total we have 18 turns.
In the first round, each group selects 1 rider.
In the second and third round, each group selects 2 riders (per round).
CJ and I are still doing the math regarding the point ranges, but of course it is logical the total number of CQ points each group can use is somewhere around 7500 - [points used in first step], divided by 6.
CJ and I will have figured something out by Sunday, promised :lol

6. So we start when I post, start. The group that is first in the random order gets to go first (duh) - group 4. They have 3 full days (72 hours) to discuss who they want to select in this thread. It is up to the group to decide how they do this. Members of other groups cannot interfere in this discussion :angry After these 72 hours, I need to have a confirmation in this thread about the rider/riders chosen. I will then give the next group the green light.

7. I will alert each group once they have a few hours left to decide (via PM, in the thread). In case the group has not decided yet after those 72 hours, I will look at the discussion and choose whichever rider I think most people agreed with :spank
Of course, if a group has decided within 5 minutes, no problem, just post the definite choice, and we can go on with the next group (in fact, I am counting on this, else we won't make the deadline :-x )

8. And that is it :)

EXTRA RULE:
Groups can sell points for picks or picks for points. It is up to the groups in question to come up with a good trade.

Example:

Group 1 wants to pick expensive riders. Group 2 wants to pick some less expensive riders, so they decide on a deal: Group 1 give group 2 one of their picks, group 2 give group 1 200 points. Group 1 can now spend 1171 on 4 riders, while group 2 can spend 771 on 6 riders

The team as of 16 November
#Rider2014 Score
1CAVENDISH Mark642
2BETANCUR GOMEZ Carlos Alberto616
3PORTE Richie415
Total1673

which means 5827 left for 30 riders

971 per group

I was thinking no veto so maybe a good idea to do groups of members who discuss and then agree on several riders, that way at least a couple of members agree with a pick and we won't have riders only 1 person wants

Flo and I had a discussion about this the other day, and I crunched some numbers.

My suggestion - itself open for discussion, of course - was for 5 groups to have a budget of 1500 points (+/- 5%) to select as many or as few riders as they can agree on. Once group 1 has decided its riders, the remaining points are divided 4 ways and group 2 has a go.

1500 may not sound like a lot, but it only excludes this year's top 9 riders. And given the collective knowledge of cycling and cyclists, I imagine we've all got ideas that are a lot more sensible than just picking one of them.

5 groups ideally but if we have 24 people for example we might do 6 or 4. Of course average number of riders per group changes too then.

Would it not be better for the groups to select their riders turn and turn about. Otherwise the last group will have weeks of doing nothing and only be left with the dregs anyway.

Since we're brainstorming. Isn't there some way the "winner" (of those competing) from the previous year's main CQ competition could be rewarded? Maybe they could get the spare picks to get us to 33 riders (4 grps of 8 leaves one spare pick, 5 grps of 6 leaves 3 spare)?

If we get 33 then groups would be broken up and each memeber would get an average 273 I think for their group, no ?

if we get less I like Leadbellys idea the left over riders are up to a small group of the best placed collective team members from last year

I also like the idea of no veto except we can all veto f19 :D

and I also like the idea of groups going 1 pick after each other, after a group is decided some posts group Clen presents rider x, and then next group discusses with no interruption from outside of that group,  could be fun

It's not quite what I meant. It's just that I think if we're doing the group thing, then all the groups (4, 5 or 6) should have the same number of picks (8 or 6 or 5) and have the same budget, so that there can be an element of competition through the year between the groups. If we do that though there will be either 1 or 3 spare picks left over (depending on the number of groups) and why not use those picks (with some sort of set aside budget) to reward the person who did best in 2014 (currently yourself jsg from the people entered, but could be Oliveira or Hitch or somebody else if they decide to play too).

A required disclaimer when Dutch investment commercials are shown is; "Results of the past are no guarantee for the future." Do we let the winners of last year decide it all :P? I'd say if we have some spare spots on the CQ team the top 3 from Velorooms in the CQ ranking are allowed to pick the x amount of riders left, with the rest of us "scrubs ;)" discussing the final x amount of picks.

I wouldnt mind discussing each pick either. :)

    Important

The deadline for signing up is 14 November

then I will make groups, choose price range per group, etc

and I will set some deadlines for each turn

of course if you want to be in a group with a certain member, you can request that ;)
