  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

28 teams so far (see opening post): 123 riders selected of whom 65 are unique picks and 2 are on at least half of the teams.

I'm not sure why I had put midnight as a closing time: I'm not likely to do anything between then and the beginning of the Omloop that will make any difference to accumulating the results, so I'll extend the closing time until the start of that race, 10:45 am GMT on Saturday.

So those who really like to leave things until the last minute can compile a team between their Friday night drinking session and their Saturday morning ride...

Managed to arrange a precisely 3,000 points team this year, so it feels like I won the real battle already. :Stars:

About 10 hours to go, now 42 teams and 146 riders, of whom 75 are unique and 4 are on at least half the teams. Teams submitted are in the OP: let's get a few more in the morning to make it bigger than last year's edition.

$: Italian Gigolo's team was 18 points overbudget, so I removed an 18 point rider.  That left 11 riders and no spare to buy a 12th.  Rather than leave an empty slot (though I suppose I may as well have done so) I told him that, if he didn't get back to alter the team, I would allocate him the first (alphabetically) picked free-pick in the season long game.  At least Jens Adam is of a nationality where one could imagine him getting a ride in some of these races, second alphabetically was Ismail Aksoy.

    34   AG   116
    35   ItalianGigolo   111

    44   Murali   45
    45   Scrool07   40
       CollectiveWisdom   224

    Collective Wisdom Team:
If we take the top 11 riders on popularity, and then the cheapest of the 3 riders tied for 12th, we have:
    STANNARD Ian
    MOSER Moreno
    HAUSSLER Heinrich
    GAUDIN Damien
    STYBAR Zdenek
    VANDENBERGH Stijn
    VANMARCKE Sep
    VANSUMMEREN Johan
    POZZATO Filippo
    PAOLINI Luca
    DEVENYNS Dries
    HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis

That team is overbudget, at 3204 points, but that is partly balanced out by the inclusion of Henao, who we are told will not be fit to race until May anway.  Gives us a stalking horse to aim at anyway.

    Ooops picks.

I'll predict now that those 10 teams who have Henao, and the 7 with Boom, will be kicking themselves, for race fitness and team licencing reasons respectively.

    Cheapest and dearest
4 free riders in the game: Rollin picked three times, Blain and Soler once each, and Adams "imposed" as a twelfth man.
    The most expensive picks are:
GILBERT Philippe   1696 points   1 team (AG)
CANCELLARA Fabian   1049   7 (CaptCavman, Crevaison, Hugo87, ItalianGigolo, Jancouver, MellowVelo, Murali)
    VANMARCKE Sep   887   17
    COLBRELLI Sonny   882   1 (Trudgin)
MEERSMAN Gianni   850   1  (Los Brolin)
    BOONEN Tom   783   9
    WELLENS Tim   748   1 (Vesica)
ULISSI Diego   691   1 (Just Some Guy)
    STYBAR Zdenek   646   17
    CAVENDISH Mark   642   1 (Oliveira)

Day 1: Sud Ardeche and Omloop Het Volk

CQ hasn't posted these results yet, but I think the only in-game scorer in the Ardeche was Felline in third, so our first leaders, for about half an hour, were DJW, Scrool07 and Italian Gigolo. (Edit: Edet also picked up 5 points for AG in that race)

They have all been wiped out like a breakaway with HTC chasing a stage win though, with far more points being taken in the Omloop.  Stannard's near-ubiquity is already pretty much justified, as recouping half your price is a perfectly acceptable return in this game, and while NairoQ, Alykaptan, LightBing and Karaev will be pleased to have had 4 of the top ten in that race, Del1962 with 5 of them will almost certainly be the overnight leader.

Edit: results now seem to be complete, so putting todays scores together we have:
    Name Points teams
    STANNARD Ian   140   37
    BOONEN Tom   72   9
    VANDENBERGH Stijn   62   17
    VANMARCKE Sep   54   17
    STYBAR Zdenek   42   17
    FELLINE Fabio   40   3
    GILBERT Philippe   36   1
    ROWE Luke   30   3
    THEUNS Edward   12   8
    MARCATO Marco   11   1
    BURGHARDT Marcus   8   2
    OFFREDO Yoann   5   7
    BOASSON HAGEN Edvald   5   7
    SENECHAL Florian   5   3
    TSATEVICH Alexei   5   2
    SCHÄR Michael   5   1
    EDET Nicolas   5   1

    So the table now reads:
    rankteam points
    1      Del1962      338
    2      NairoQ      328
    3      Alykaptan      316

Kicking myself for not finding room for Rowe after singing his praises and putting him in my road.cc team, but hopefully that's balanced out by getting rid of Henao.

Pleased with four top tens from today!

Hmmm: not sure what happened there.  I see a couple of other teams also under-reported, and some of my other pages were also inconsistent in how they transferred data from other pages.

If I can't rely on the spreadsheet, I fear for how the game can be run.  Any Excel experts able to check it?

Meanwhile, this is what I think that table should have said:

    1   Del1962   338
    2   NairoQ   328
    3   Alykaptan   316
    4   LightBing   308

    Selected riders who got points
1   BOECKMANS Kris   80pts   1 team (Not My Circus)
    2   MEERSMAN Gianni   48   1 (Los Brolin)
4   BENOOT Tiesj   36   1 (Los Brolin again!)
6   CHAINEL Steve   28   4 (ArchieBoy, DJW, Josedin and GeraintTooFast: the first three of whom also have Vandenbergh)
    7   VANDENBERGH Stijn   24   17
    16   LEUKEMANS Björn   5   1
    18   LE BON Johan   5   1

    Points from this race:
Not My Circus is one of the 17 teams to also have Vandenbergh: that held off Los Brolin's 2nd and 4th to be top of the day

    20      PBlazer      5
    21=      all others      0
          CollectiveWisdom      24

And that launches Not My Circus from 11th to 2nd.  Josedin also enters the top ten, with Rote Laterne and Oliveira making way for them.
DJW's two top ten finishers are enough to retain his lead as the series heads down to Italy:

    Strade Bianchi
    Brief results, more to follow.

17 teams have the winner, Stybar, and 17 have 4th placed Vanmarcke.
LightBing, Del1962, GeraintTooFast, Nepetalactone and JosephD all ombine the two, and of them, LightBing has the unique pick of 12th placed Vicioso to be probable top scorer on the day.

Pairing Stybar with Felline should be enough for DJW to retain his lead

Geraint Too Fast and Nepetalactone both have leaps of more than 10 places to reach the top ten, but Joseph D moves up even more: a 19 place jump. Asdfgh101, Rote Laterne and Oliveira also force their way into the top ten, and the podium places that Del1962 and Alykaptan have taken over were vacated by the spectacular tumbles of NairoQ and Not My Circus, who went from 2nd all the way down to 16th.

A week and a half off now while we watch some stage races, then a handful of Nokere Koerse points before the first really big points race: Milan-San Remo.

    Nokere Koerse
    position, rider, points, teams
    1   BOECKMANS Kris      80       1
    7   MARKUS Barry      24       1
    8   JANS Roy      20       3
    13   ZABEL Rick      8       1
    15   THEUNS Edward      6       8
    17   VAN LERBERGHE Bert      5       1

Not a surprise that the team with Boeckmans was top rider of the day: even less of a surprise when one realises that that team (Not My Circus) also features Jans and Theuns.

No other team managed to double up on point scorers today, so you can work out for yourselves who had selected whom.

    1   NotMyCircus   106
    2   Batchuba   24
    3   Armchair   20
    3   Comodoro   20
    5   PBlazer   8
    6   Asdfgh101   6
    6   Joelsim   6
    6   Karaev   6
    6   Leadbelly   6
    6   LosBrolin   6
    6   RoteLaterne   6
    6   Vesica   6
    13   Madrazo   5

Not My Circus, having dropped from 2nd to 16th after the last race, bounces most of the way back, to 5th. Batchuba moved up by 4 places, but only to 26th. A few other one place rises and concomitant falls, but nothing worth publishing a full table over.

Sunday should see more substantial scoring.

    Milan - San Remo

Only two of the top ten finishers were selected in the game, here are the selected riders who made today's top thirty:
Position Name Points Number of teams
    7   CANCELLARA Fabian   90   7
    10   BOASSON HAGEN Edvald   62   7
    11   ROELANDTS Jürgen   54   10
    14   LANGEVELD Sebastian   38   1
    15   WELLENS Tim   34   1
    18   COLBRELLI Sonny   28   1
    26   FELLINE Fabio   12   3
    27   NOCENTINI Rinaldo   10   1
    30   PAOLINI Luca   6   12

35 of the 130 riders who finished for 5 points were selected, among them Moser (25 teams), Haussler (23 teams), Stybar, Vandenbergh, Van Summeren (each 17 teams) and Pozzato (16 teams).

    Team Points for this race

Jancouver is the only manager to have picked 2 of the top ten: Comodoro and Just Some Guy combine Boassen Hagen and Roelandts (10th and 11th): all the other teams have no more than one main scorer.

    New rankings
DJW was joint 5th on the day, and so further extends his lead to over 100 points.  Del1962 and LightBing, previously 2nd and 4th, had nothing but 5 pointers to their credit, and so they allow Alykaptan, Not My Circus and Geraint Too Fast to make progress within the top ten.  Madrazo crashes into the top ten on the strength of a 5 place rise.  Of the top teams on the day, Jancouver moves up 14 places and third on the day JSG moved up by 10, the second highest jump up the table.  Comodoro, however, has more than tripled his total score on the strength of today's points, and yet only moves up one place, to second last.
