Features / Requests #5 (2015)
« on: March 08, 2015, 14:20 »
The other threads are locked so I figured I'd start a new one.

Request:
I think it would be useful to have a direct link to race threads from the corresponding Live Chat page.

When participating in a Live Race Chat, I often want to check the race thread for stats, start lists, and other pertinent info about the race. I realize that the OP is usually posted below the Live Chat, but only sometimes does that include start lists, etc, depending on how the OP was constructed.

There are other reasons too that it could be useful, and it would just make it easier to go back and forth between the race thread and the chat. With a direct link, it would also mean easily toggling back and forth using the browser arrows, not to mention avoiding having to open another tab/window, pull up Velorooms, find the thread, etc.

 :)

yeah, I am just having a look into it, how to add it again

...looks like someone is already on it as well though, so I'll leave it for the moment. But generally it shouldn't be a problem

anyway, I have added the buttons to the Paris Nice shoutbox myself now - it needs to be done manually for each new race though, so in case we forget about it, just let us know

Yes, I used do it but as Search it needs to be done manually and I guess I grew lazy.
Will try when I set up to remember and between us hopefully will do it, I do agree it is pretty useful to have.

Here is my request - with the caveat that I have no idea whether it is technically possible to implement.

Currently, to share music in the various music-themed threads, we tend to embed YouTube videos.

Is it possible to embed Spotify playlists in the same manner? I know they allow embedding by html (<iframe>), but I can't work out if there is a forum-based equivalent.

Of course, if no-one else uses Spotify, it would seem redundant to even try...

and how easy it is to grab the big following the uri= from regular browsing.

trouble is looking at it theres loads of examples, album, playlist etc.. so it needs seperate things for each.. ie. seperate bb code, or people would have to use the exact format when doing it

Within the Spotify program, there are options for "Copy HTTP Link", "Copy Spotify URI" and "Copy Embed Code", which (for Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town - much more my sort of thing - come out looking like this:

    Code: [Select]
    http://open.spotify.com/album/4KT6G8fj8EEIfsyr75hbgc

    spotify:album:4KT6G8fj8EEIfsyr75hbgc

    <iframe src="https://embed.spotify.com/?uri=spotify:album:4KT6G8fj8EEIfsyr75hbgc" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>

The latter of that trio is the same as the code I copied from the website, isn't it? I've not done this before.

Going through the Spotify web player gives a fourth option - which is effectively a direct link to the album/song. Like the HTTP link, but directing to the web player, rather than force-opening the software.

Would it be possible to add a "Collapse" button underneath a voting poll?

It's distracting to always have to scroll down past the poll at the top of the page (such as in the Paris-Nice thread).

It's just not something that needs to viewed on every page.

Also, I noticed that I was unable to actually see the results for the poll unless I voted myself. Is that intentional?

I voted for Kwiatkowski. That allowed to me finally see the results to the poll, but didn't change the outcome of the race.

I know we're lacking staff members to keep up to date with stuff like stickying threads etc. So how about we just unsticky everything in the Road Race thread other than Race News and Roadbooks?

it takes 2 seconds to sticky/unsticky threads, so it's not really a problem to keep it updated. Personally I barely go the way through the sub-forums to access threads, that's why I tend to forget about it.

This is what happens when I take a weekend off VR. People start to notice the (missing) work I normally do. :D

I'd normally do the stickying/unstickying almost when I'm in the Road Races thread as a matter of course - but I was gone for the last 4 days.
Normal service will resume tomorrow. ;)
