Still see Europcar, Tasol and MTN. And one Bonitas there.

Judging by the winner, sprint finish?

Yeah, early morning road races - I remember the feeling - you're only half awake but full of nerves & excitement - pretty awesome.

You know what, Hendrik & I both live in Stellies, he has quite a bit of inside info, we hang out at the same local cafe too, I'm going to see when we're both back, I'm going to buy him a coffee & see what he has to say about the ins&outs - might not post it publicly but message or somesuch - will ask him, although he doesn't seem too bothered about being tactful.. Could be some interesting info there :-)

I'm really happy I'm no pro rider. Finishing a 100+ km race at 8:30 in the morning... they'd have to get up and eat breakfast at 4 am. ???

About Qhubeka riding a GT, I have to agree with ram. 2013 may be a bit early for some of the African lads, and there's no point in "the first African pro cycling team" sending a mostly European squad to their first GT. Better wait for 2014 and have van Zyl and Meintjes actually being ready to take it on.
In the meantime, they should try to get into HC races for 2013. Most importantly the Tour of Denmark... ;D

Yep, pretty much at 4 am, I used to attend loads of them, pretty much no social life, just bikebike cyclecycle :-)

As for passing it on... :-D been a while since I knew any prof cyclist personally but you never know, Stellenbosch is a sporting hot spot, guys like Conrad 'Xterra' Stolz etc all live here, let's see if I can find a couple of ears to bend, you guys will be the first to know ;-)

I once got a reply from the man running the team, Doug Ryder, to a question on Twitter.
So you never know - I'll just have to pester him and DCU, telling both how much we'd love to see the team up here... :win

Ciolek looks to pass on experience at Team MTN-Qhubeka
    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ciolek-looks-to-pass-on-experience-at-team-mtn-qhubeka

    Quote
"When I first heard about the team I didn't know much about it, but the more I found out about Team MTN-Qhubeka the more interested I became,” he said.

“On one hand there’s the possibility to perform with young motivated riders, which in turn will motivate me, and I can also pass on some of my experience.”

“The other thing that attracted me to the team was the whole project behind the team through Qhubeka and also the team’s goals, riders and the prospect to be Africa's first Pro Continental Team. This is something new to cycling, it's different.”

Asked what his ambitions were for 2013, Ciolek said: “Helping the team grow, best thing I can do in this process is winning races and therefore motivating my teammates. I’m looking forward to racing a mixture of smaller and bigger races. Not to say the smaller races are less hard but I am looking forward to the combination and to win so that I can help the team improve.”

“I just found out that at 26 I'm already over the average age of the team. Some of the riders don't have a lot of experience as they haven’t raced in Europe as much but I know all these races and can refer my experience to them.”

Now as Pro-Conti have set their sights on Vuelta 2013 and Giro 14 - Also interesting to see the races they see being on the horizon and those they're not so keen on (although that might be lost in translation)

NB Google translate turns Giro => Tour in the headline.

"@XylonVE: Cool article about @ReinardtvRnsbrg riding @momentum947 to honour his dad http://t.co/cDcTegXj"

"Van Rensburg, however, believed he would have a better chance if the 94.7 kilometres race was longer, with most races in Europe contested over 150km or more.

“It is pity that we race over such short distances in South Africa”, he said.

He was nonetheless eager to cap off his season with a victory at the race.

“Winning the 94.7 Cycle Challenge will really be special.

"I will consider it as one of the most important victories of my entire cycling career.”
