Seems like Garmin has another decent competitor in the mid-range and Polar was getting killed out there with all of its simple HRM-only, wristwitch-type solutions.

This looks pretty decent if you're not looking to incorporate power data, or from anything other than the company's proprietary EUR1700 Look pedals.

If I were in the market now for a replacement for my Edge 800, I'd consider it.

  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Finally got the gadget and took it out today. First impressions are good. The interface and screen are very intuitive, and it even congratulated me on a long and successful workout(!). Not yet used the mapping but am looking forward to it
