Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

    Spot the mistake: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/racing/british-racing/three-womens-worldtour-events-planned-for-uk-in-2016-192236?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social#mKB27cJM7wge524l.99

From the WWT rules: 4.1. EVENT STATUS:
Candidates must have at least a UCI Class 1 Road status to be considered for the 2016 UCI Women’s WorldTour

So either the UCI is getting desperate for WWT races and have scrapped that rule, or cyclingweekly is smoking something..

Looks like the Ronde van Drenthe is one of the WWT races next year. They just confirmed that one of the three women's Drenthe races (Novilon Cup) will disappear to finance the WWT status of the big event. It will be replaced on the Sunday by the Drentse 8, normally held the Thursday before the Ronde van Drenthe.

read that sounds ok to me tbh

I have a feeling the Giro Rosa will not be WWT and a WWT event will be at the same time

Best news: Giro is in. Weirdest news: Ride London, officially it doesn't even fit the WWT rules that the UCI has set out (you have to be ranked .1 the year before, Ride London was an unranked crit this year). Let's hope it's a proper race next year and not that a boring crit that it is now.

Good to see it's an actual World Tour - though I don't know how much of a financial burden the races in *cn and *usa will place on the mostly *eu-based teams.

I'm not sure if the teams HAVE to go though. It doesn't really say that anywhere, we might end up with the same situation as this year with some teams skipping the far away races (Rabo and Orica did this season). On the other hand, the Tour of California being WWT makes it interesting to go over, do that and the Philly world cup as well.

That'll make sense, then. If teams don't HAVE TO go to China, they mostly won't go - unless they have a great sprinter (the race is as flat as a pancake) or desperately need ranking points.

Why include it in the WWT if participation isn't mandatory - or why not make participation mandatory? :S

Probably because, like you say, it might push some of the smaller teams into financial difficulty?

Yes - but why have 20 WWT teams then and not only 15 (or 12, or 10) who are required to do all races?

How many teams made the trip for TTT worlds? Velocio/Boels/Rabo/Wiggle/Orica/Hitec and BTC City Ljubljana. 7 Teams. That doesn't make me overly confident they can find 10 to 12 teams who are absolutely sure they have the funds to not only go to the US, but China as well.

OK then, to play devil's advocate: Why set up a WWT at all, then?

If there's no mandatory participation for the teams, isn't it just a glorified HC status for the races? Not that that isn't good in itself, with certain standards to be applied to all these races - but why paint it as the big reform that it isn't?

I think they hope to bring more sponsors into the sport by having the WWT races have a minimum standard for coverage and media and make it easier on badly paid riders with improved prize money. From there on you can always go bigger and better in years to come.
