yes, thats the setup of the image restrictions at the moment, it prevents overly graphical pages, or huge huge images being posted, keeps down bandwidth for mobile, ipad users etc, but it is global, so the size constraints can change but would effect every thread

at the moment its set to 200px, it can be change but would effect every image across the site, 200 seemed a reasonable size for race maps etc.

Do you notice anything wrong with this post?

When coverage started yesterday, we saw images of Horner going back to the medical car and being patched up.   Checking my video from last night, at 45.5km to go Paul S mentions his crash, which was actually from stage 1, not yesterday.

The rabo rider they were referring to was actually just the crash from Stage 1 involving Lulu ..

    Quote from: Paul Sherwin
"Another man who missed out yesterday was the American rider Chris Horner on team Radioshack-Nissan he also went out the back"
    ~ Paul Sherwin

You want me to go on just that, knowing their record? ::)

    However,

Had you presented evidence like this:

    Quote from: Chris Horner
...I took a little dump myself, it had nothing to do with the crash but pullled off actually just to pee and pulled over to what I thought was grass but was mud and kinda grabbed the front tire and had a little tumble there...
    ~ Chris Horner

    Link

    and

Then that would have made it a lot easier! :D

So I'll mark Horner off tonight.

AM, thanks for the invitation :P

Ok, so I'm wrong here. It is frustrating though trying to post something like a 400px picture and having it downsized but whatevs.

Yeh, its getting that balance between the forum looking good and images looking effective, and keeping page sizes sensible, race previews not spanning 300 screens for tablets and the like. Could probably be a bit bigger, although 400 on some of the stage previews would be a bit much.

Would be nice to try and set the max width as x rather than "largest dimension" as x, as it makes skinny pictures look wrong.

Its possible, but i dont have it set as an option for avatars.

My personal feeling is that animated avatars are annoying as hell, they detract from the content, and are just annoying. The other thing to bear in mind, your avatar is 12kb, that animation is 5mb. Five people on a thread with animated avatars, even small ones at 1mb each, thats an extra 5mb to download on what is generally a fairly light page content wise, its just another thing to slow everything down, put extra server load on, and cause problems.

Thats not to say mine is the only opinion on here, you guys can decide between you what is a good idea and i or larri can try and implement it.

my personal thought is that animated avatars will annoy more people than actually use them.

Yup, server and page load issues aside, first thing I do when I see an animated gif is hitting [ESC] to make them stop. I have hidden all avatars from some sites I visit where frequent posters were infatuated with them, just to stop them screaming at me, page after page.

your flag? I have no idea what you are talking about :S

For months the flag under my name had gone blank. Thought it might be a glitch at your end, and after waiting for a while, decided to report it. Then I realised that it happened around the time that you were moving server, and my avatar had also gone blank. So the glitch was in my brains, for being a numptie and not checking my profile page first to see if it had been unset.

    whoops...

Dim, mobile version and i will be your slave forever ;D

    there are several mobile options.

depends what kind of phone you have though.

On a basic level, opera mini browser does a pretty good job of rendering the site and you can use the full functionality such as chat boxes etc etc

Failing that, on the front page look for where you can change the skin and you can switch it to mobile mode, which is a special skin that is optimised for mobiles, but you lose out on the bells and whistles such as chatboxes etc

You can also go to the very bottom of the page in the default skin and select wap2, that will also give you a wap skin

and finally the tapatalk app which is available for iphone, android and blackberry which rerenders it completely , but again no shoutbox etc.

If you want shoutbox, use opera mini or opera mobile, if you just want to read either use the mobile skin, the wap2 skin, or use tapatalk.

I get your point with that, DinZ, it seems rather illogical to block a user and then still see his/her posts second hand.

However, I can see how programatically, it is nearly impossible to control, so even if I don't know for sure, I don't think there will be a way around it.

This is because a quote is essentially free text like the rest of a post: it is not subject to any processing beyond the usual swearing etc. and this latter type of processing is generally applicable (i.e. for the benefit of all users). Put simply, it's not feasible for forum software to filter the text of every single message on a per user basis.

I will have a check for you but I'm 99% sure that's the situation. So I can only console you with a big virtual hug, I'm afraid. :hug
